FCL 2 - 8 Grilled

Clear skies welcomed the spectators who had made their way to the stadium today. The following players had been selected: Allaoui - Lambotte, Belhiba, Marcusson - Figedy, Supiński, Souza, Morin, Azman - Sterian, O'Rourke.

They fielded: Germanakos - Keng Chuan, Hutter - Parada, Thach, An Keng, Khairul, Balde - Reece, Ming Xin, Tokarz.

It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 3-5-2 formation while the visitors instead opted for a 2-5-3. FCL displayed their ability to play creatively. Grilled went for a narrow approach, using their divine (+1) (21) ability to focus their attacks down the middle. The home crowd breathed a collective sigh of relief when Lim An Keng was unable to give the visitors the go-ahead goal after his attack from the left in minute 13. Grilled were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up coming through the center. Grilled had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially 23 minutes in when Ibnou Balde found himself alone with Djoumbé Allaoui who managed a block. 29 minutes into the game, Federico Parada had a great chance to put his team ahead, but his kick from the left went wide. 0 - 1 was the score after 32 minutes, when Grilled's Chad Thach cut through the central defense and pounded one in. Grilled's Ibnou Balde sent an early cross that saw the defenders caught out of position and the alert Phua Ming Xin was able to pounce and roll the ball past the hapless netminder to make the score 0 - 2. 36 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 3 as Federico Parada finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular bicycle kick. 0 - 3 was the halftime score. Let's go to the Twittersphere to see what the fans think of the game so far! says FCL's Skip O'Rourke scored a screamer after 50 minutes, made possible by a deep pass from Djoumbé Allaoui which cut through the entire defensive line. That's 1 - 3. 60 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Ibnou Balde gave Egemen Dinçer Ferzan a quick hug as he left the field. 60 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution. Hwang Teck Fu came on for Mohd Marzuki Khairul. As the 66 minute mark approached, the FCL manager decided it was time for a substitution. Azizul Azman reluctantly made way for Adam Bartos. After 70 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defense allowed Damian Hutter to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 1 - 4. Grilled's Orest Tokarz proved that he's been around on a soccer field before, when he took advantage of a few moments of confusion in the enemy defensive line and elegantly scored for 1 - 5. Some fine one-twos on the left led to a Grilled goal with 84 minutes gone, making it 1 - 6. Hwang Teck Fu was noted down as the scorer. With 86 minutes played, Skip O'Rourke was very close to reducing the deficit for FCL with a low drive from the left, but a defender stuck his foot out just in the nick of time, blocking the shot for a corner. After 87 minutes, Grilled's Chad Thach burst through the central defense and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 1 - 7. Maybe it was because of his team's lead, or maybe it was due to the ease with which he broke down the left, but Joe Reece was a bit too sure of his talents, so instead of taking the easy tap-in goal after 87 minutes, he went for the backheel, which he put woefully wide. The long pass from FCL's Djoumbé Allaoui caught the defense out of position. Skip O'Rourke collected the ball with the goal as open as McDonald's on a Friday night. 2 - 7. After 89 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for Joe Reece who increased Grilled's lead to 2 - 8. As the match nears its end, the referee deemed it appropriate to add 4 minutes as stoppage time. The match ends 2 - 8. Now to our celebrity commentator for a hot take. Over to you, Snoop! The most outstanding FCL player was without a doubt Ciprian Sterian. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by Frits Marcusson today. Most important Grilled player was Federico Parada. I can't remember Egemen Dinçer Ferzan ever having a worse night than he just had.
