Goalkeeper 3 - 5 Grilled
It was an exceptionally sunny day for the crowd that came out to the stadium today. The weather was sunny, which meant perfect conditions for technical players in both teams. However, it was also quite warm, which meant quick or physically strong players were drained faster and couldn't play their best game. They fielded:
Villani -
Meijerink,
Sikkes,
Dzenis -
Goldsteen,
Houweling,
van Huiden,
van Dessel,
Gualdi -
Simonsen,
Niesten.
The following players had been selected:
Germanakos -
Keng Chuan,
Hutter -
Parada,
Thach,
An Keng,
Khairul,
Balde -
Reece,
Ming Xin,
Tokarz.
Goalkeeper started the game in a 3-5-2 formation, whereas Grilled Birds lined up in a 2-5-3. Goalkeeper showed off their creative tactics. Grilled mostly ignored the flanks in favor of their divine (20) ability to attack in the middle. After 6 minutes cheers broke out as
André van Dessel found his way through the guests' central defensive line, rattling the 1 - 0 goal in off the woodwork for Goalkeeper. After 31 minutes, Grilled raised their score by one when
Ibnou Balde's dangerous low cross was cleverly tucked in at the near post by
Joe Reece. 1 - 1. Goalkeeper's
Wim Goldsteen set up a perfect opportunity for
Epi van Huiden, but the latter failed to score. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, and they were successfully passing the ball from the wing into the middle at the behest of their coach. Grilled took the lead 37 minutes into the game, making the score 1 - 2 after some elegant movement down the middle.
Phua Ming Xin was the scorer. After 43 minutes of game time,
Orest Tokarz had an excellent opportunity to add to the visitors' lead, hitting a cross from the right with a half volley, but
Marco Villani was in the right place and tipped the ball to a corner. A thrilling play through the middle after 44 minutes gave Grilled's
Lim An Keng a chance to increase the lead, and he happily obliged. The score was then 1 - 3. 1 - 3 was the score after the first half. Grilled did a good job holding on to the ball, with 57 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.
With the clock showing 55 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board.
Arnaud Niesten looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for
Raf Tjallingii, though he would have liked to continue. As the 60 minute mark approached, the Goalkeeper manager decided it was time for a substitution.
Job Meijerink reluctantly made way for
Sergio Saimur. 60 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution.
Egemen Dinçer Ferzan came on for
Ibnou Balde. After 60 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving
Mohd Marzuki Khairul off.
Hwang Teck Fu took his place. After 63 minutes, Grilled's
Egemen Dinçer Ferzan burst through the central defense and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 1 - 4.
Manuele Gualdi managed to make an excellent pass from the wing, but
Wim Goldsteen was not as skillful and couldn't finish it off. After 75 minutes, Grilled's
Chad Thach surprised everyone as he managed to intercept a pass intended for the opposing keeper and flip it up and in, making the score 1 - 5. The home crowd did not lose faith and cheered their team on as they strove to get back into the game. The fans were rewarded after 76 minutes when
Úlvur Simonsen burst forward, 5-holed the central defender and then mischievously lobbed the ball over the advancing goalie to make the score 2 - 5. Definitely a SportsCenter Top 10 candidate – DA-DA-DA! DA-DA-DA! Goalkeeper reduced the lead to 3 - 5 after 78 minutes when
Raf Tjallingii got the best of a lazy ball floated in from the left side. Goalkeeper's
Manuele Gualdi made use of his speed to get free of his marker, but he still couldn't get a shot off after 79 minutes. 80 minutes into the game, Goalkeeper wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Epi van Huiden gave
Boyko Angelov a quick hug as he left the field. With
Epi van Huiden no longer on the field,
Boyko Angelov stepped up to be the new set pieces taker. 84 minutes into the match,
Lim An Keng came through the middle and almost added to his team's lead, but the shot went wide. Feeling like a boy about to meet his girlfriend's father for the first time, the inexperienced Grilled struggled to maintain their level of play after 85 minutes. Grilled already had the lead, so
Phua Ming Xin probably won't be too disappointed that his speculative shot from the right 86 minutes in fell wide of the goal. As the match nears its end, the referee deemed it appropriate to add 3 minutes as stoppage time. The match ends 3 - 5. Let's go to the Twittersphere to see what the fans think of the game so far! says Goalkeeper's best player was
Úlvur Simonsen. Speaking of stinking up the place,
Raf Tjallingii sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham.
Lim An Keng performed admirably for Grilled. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because
Egemen Dinçer Ferzan seemed to stumble all over the pitch.
