Grilled 1 - 5 Pancho
It was a scorching day at the stadium today. The intense heat made it hard for players relying on strength or speed to shine. On the other hand, it provided perfect conditions for the more technical players. The following players had been selected:
Germanakos -
Keng Chuan,
Hutter -
Parada,
Thach,
An Keng,
Khairul,
Balde -
Reece,
Ming Xin,
Tokarz.
The following players took the field:
Al-Shaibei -
Chiochiu,
Lipiecki,
Jermann -
Aroztegui,
Mamalakis,
Rosby,
Cuello,
Akay -
Brumer,
Fuzeta.
Grilled Birds started the game in a 2-5-3 formation, whereas San Pancho lined up in a 3-5-2. Grilled seemed to prefer attacking in the middle, using their divine (20) ability to great effect. The guests took the lead 15 minutes into the match, after a right-side attack resulted in
Isaac Rosby scoring to make it 0 - 1. It was obvious that Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle when they directed a break on the wing into the center of the park.
Joe Reece made a superb effort after 19 minutes after a long ball through the middle, but one of the visitors' defenders got a foot in at the last second to preserve the away lead. After 23 minutes, Pancho's
Silvan Brumer burst through the central defense and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 2. 26 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 3 as
Recai Akay finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular bicycle kick. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 3. Now to our celebrity commentator for a hot take. Over to you, Snoop! The crowd groaned when
Phua Ming Xin, having maneuvered his way down the right, fired the ball just wide and missed a great opportunity to pull one back for Grilled. At the 59 minute mark, Pancho's
Edward Lipiecki surprised the visitors with a 40 yard pass to
Aniceto Fuzeta who easily found the back of the net, bringing the score to 0 - 4. In an effort to secure the lead, Pancho changed their tactics after 60 minutes. As the 60 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution.
Ibnou Balde reluctantly made way for
Egemen Dinçer Ferzan. 60 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution.
Hwang Teck Fu came on for
Mohd Marzuki Khairul.
Aniceto Fuzeta somehow managed to break free of his man on the left wing and only needed a relatively easy finish to bring Pancho's lead up to 0 - 5. By working their way through the middle, Grilled refused to be intimidated – their efforts finally led to
Phua Ming Xin managing to slip the ball past the keeper to make the score 1 - 5. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 2 beyond the regular 90 minutes. The match ends 1 - 5. This part of the game was a standoff between the teams as far as possession.
The most outstanding Grilled player was without a doubt
Lim An Keng. Good thing
Egemen Dinçer Ferzan isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. Pancho's top performer was clearly
Silvan Brumer. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by
Sergio Aroztegui today.
