Grilled Birds entered the field in a 2-5-3 formation. The visitors, Controlar, chose to start the game with a 3-5-2 lineup. Grilled mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle, taking advantage of their utopian (19) level with that tactic. Luckily for Grilled, their keeper was more alert than
Enrique Baena and managed to stop his near own goal in the 25:th minute. After a fine move down the middle
Orest Tokarz nearly gave the home side a goal after 26 minutes. However the finishing shot went just wide. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, as they moved the ball from the wings to the middle with startling regularity. The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to
Joe Reece, but the Grilled player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 1 - 0! After 37 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by
Phua Ming Xin might have resulted in another goal for Grilled. However,
Pedro Vasco Conceição Correia made a spectacular save. It was obvious that team Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings.
Joe Reece should probably have put his team up another goal after 39 minutes after breaking through the middle, but some great goalkeeping by
Pedro Vasco Conceição Correia kept the visitors in the game. Halftime score was 1 - 0. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Grilled, with 57 percent of the ball.
The visitors' equaliser seemed sure to come after 59 minutes, following a one on one situation around the left hand side of the goal area, but
Dimitris Germanakos got the best of it, blocking the shot from
David Ramos.
Joe Reece would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise.
Chan Ze Han entered the game for Grilled as the match clock showed 89 minutes. 89 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Enrique Baena gave
Egemen Dinçer Ferzan a quick hug as he left the field. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 1 minute of added time they, nonetheless, welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. The match ends 1 - 0. Grilled had most of the ball, with 58 percent of possession.
Grilled's top performer was clearly
Federico Parada.
Egemen Dinçer Ferzan on the other hand, had a terrible day.
David Ramos performed admirably for Controlar. On the other hand,
Paulino Faladoiro's play was disheartening.
