It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 2-5-3 formation while the visitors instead opted for a 3-4-3. Using their magical (18) skill, Grilled pushed their attacks towards the wings. Big paper red cards were being held up by the opposing supporters with 26 minutes on the clock after
Federico Parada's mistimed tackle from behind. The referee only showed the Grilled player a yellow card though. Grilled's
Chia Kwang Tse tried to break through the middle repeatedly, but the visitors' defenders were just too alert. Some good play on the left wing created an opportunity for the visitors 38 minutes into the match, and
Tibet Ertunç wasn't about to waste it. He got past the defenders and fired a shot that the keeper just missed. 0 - 1 for the visitors. It was obvious that Grilled had instructions to attack on the wings instead of in the middle. With 42 minutes on the clock, Grilled's
Joe Reece found an opening in the visitors' left side, but his shot was handled easily by the keeper. Grilled's
Aw Keng Chuan made a successful breakthrough on the left after 43 minutes and should have tied things up, but instead he sent it over the bar. The home team's task just got even harder after
Leif Möllerbrant buried the penalty kick. Blackbirds lead 0 - 2 after 44 minutes. Blackbirds's
Phil Schwindt was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 44 minutes. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 2. Let's go to the Twittersphere to see what the fans think of the game so far! says With the clock showing 46 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board.
Chan Ze Han looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for
Orest Tokarz, though he would have liked to continue. As
Chan Ze Han left the field, the coach signaled to
Aw Keng Chuan to be the new set pieces taker.
Federico Parada was handed the Grilled captain's armband. After 58 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
Dimitrije Tončev who increased Blackbirds's lead to 0 - 3. As the 70 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution.
Federico Parada reluctantly made way for
Enrique Baena.
Enrique Baena became the new Grilled captain. 72 minutes into the game, Blackbirds worked the left side industriously creating several opportunities to add to their lead, but just couldn't apply the finishing touch. After 80 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving
Damian Hutter off.
Gilbert Webb took his place. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 1 minutes of added time, they welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. The home crowd found their second wind when
Joe Reece scored with a header after an industrious attack from the right, making the score 1 to 3. After the ball was lifted in from the left,
Tibet Ertunç was on his own in the home side's penalty area and should have scored after 89 minutes, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration. The match ends 1 - 3. Well, look at this! Cardi B is on the Enormotron in naught but giant sunglasses and a Never2L8 tank top. I've not seen anything like it before. Grilled's top performer was clearly
Mohd Marzuki Khairul. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because
Gilbert Webb seemed to stumble all over the pitch.
Joerg Gsödl performed admirably for Blackbirds. I can't remember
Phil Schwindt ever having a worse night than he just had.
