A 2-5-3 was the choice of the day for both coaches. Grilled were mostly trying to use their magical (18) skill at attacking on the flanks. Though it was beautiful soccer, the home crowd did not enjoy
Archie Knock's goal after a run down the left with 4 minutes on the clock. Pessimism lead, 0 - 1.
Chan Ze Han's experience almost gave Grilled a goal after 17 minutes but the keeper made a great save. After 23 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defense allowed
William 'The Wizard Of' Amberwood to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 2. The visitors'
Gary 'The Raggedy Man' Dempster took advantage of a mix-up between the home side's goalie and center backs 25 minutes into the match. 0 - 3 for Pessimism. The home crowd was not impressed when
Ivan Kr came in from the right, shooting hard to score after 42 minutes. Pessimism were now up 0 - 4. 0 - 4 was the halftime score. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Pessimism would have 55 percent possession in this half was spot on!
60 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Gandhik Chitre gave
Orest Tokarz a quick hug as he left the field. A thrilling play through the middle after 66 minutes gave Pessimism's
Poonsak Sangsom a chance to increase the lead, and he happily obliged. The score was then 0 - 5. 80 minutes into the game, Pessimism's
Gary 'The Raggedy Man' Dempster popped up out of nowhere, stole the ball and showed off his fantastic goal scoring skills. 0 - 6. The home fans looked somber as they watched their team give up another goal, this one coming from their right as
Jonah Carter put one through the keeper's legs. 0 - 7 after 81 minutes. After 85 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving
Joe Reece off.
Ibnou Balde took his place. After the ball was lifted in from the left,
Jonah Carter was on his own in the home side's penalty area and should have scored after 86 minutes, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration. Grilled were determined to attack down the sideline and their central attempts were constantly abandoned in favor of the wings. The fourth official announced that there would be 2 minutes of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. After 89 minutes, Pessimism's
Yesayi Baklayan burst through the central defense and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 8. The match ends 0 - 8. Let's go to the Twittersphere to see what the fans think of the game so far! says Grilled's best player was
Chia Kwang Tse. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by
Damian Hutter today.
Curt Stelle performed admirably for Pessimism. Good thing
William 'The Wizard Of' Amberwood isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance.
