Barnoldswick 6 - 1 Grilled
The crowd turning up at the stadium today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain. For strong, physical players the heavy rain was easy to overcome, it was even an advantage given their style of play. Others, such as the quick or technical ones, made bleaker appearances. The following players took the field:
Churruchano -
Weibel,
Lderach -
Oschmann,
Garin,
Lysko,
Hther,
Meindorf -
Eisenmenger,
Artuso,
Monsehr.
They fielded:
Germanakos -
Keng Chuan,
Hutter -
Ferzan,
Thach,
Kwang Tse,
An Keng,
Khairul -
Chitre,
Ze Han,
Tokarz.
A 2-5-3 was the choice of the day for both coaches. Barnoldswick used their divine (+3) (23) ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the field. Today, Grilled's strategy involved concentrating on the flanks for their attacks, taking advantage of their titanic (15) ability.
Mael Lysko is making an astonishing dash. The fans are chanting his name. You can hear it reverberate around the stadium. Now a manic sprint up the middle and into the box. Oh! He's thrown open the door! He's thrown open the door, shot the ball through, and slammed the door shut on Mr. Tumnus! Barnoldswick has taken the lead 16 minutes into the match, 1 to 0. There'll be no Turkish Delight after the match for the keeper! Cheers filled the stadium as
Maurizio Artuso broke through the visitors' central defense to put away the 2 - 0 goal for Barnoldswick. 35 minutes into the game, Grilled's attack got through on the right, but
Chad Thach couldn't control the ball and his feeble kick wound up in the keeper's arms. Things were going from bad to worse for the visitors.
Toni Lderach was able to squirm through the central defense after 36 minutes and score, bringing the lead to 3 - 0. A crazy pass by
Chad Thach towards his own keeper almost caused a goal for Barnoldswick, but
Hansruedi Oschmann didn't get the finish right.
40 minutes had passed when Barnoldswick put themselves up 4 - 0 after the visiting defenders lost the ball to
Hansruedi Oschmann, who came up from the left and proceeded to easily go around the goalkeeper and knock the ball home. Halftime score was 4 - 0. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 53 percent possession in this half was spot on!
Grilled's coach was furious with
Chia Kwang Tse after he picked up a yellow for saying one too many words to the ref. After more pushing and shoving than a pack of helicopter moms trying to get the last appointment for their snowflakes to see the Easter Bunny, Barnoldswick's
Toni Lderach finally got himself booked for a foul. With the clock showing 60 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board.
Mohd Marzuki Khairul looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for
Federico Parada, though he would have liked to continue.
Federico Parada managed to make an excellent pass from the wing, but
Chia Kwang Tse was not as skillful and couldn't finish it off. The traveling fans had something to cheer about as
Chan Ze Han took a successful penalty kick 77 minutes into the match, reducing the home lead to 4 - 1. Barnoldswick solidified their lead at the 82 minute mark, as
Hansruedi Oschmann snaked the ball through the central line of defense and finished for 5 - 1. It was announced by the fourth official that he estimated stoppage time to be around 2 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match!
Pedro Churruchano made a brilliant save 89 minutes into the match, blocking a rocket of a shot from
Lim An Keng on the right hand side. 89 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defense had to look on as
Maurizio Artuso ran straight through, knocking one home to make it 6 - 1 for Barnoldswick. The match ends 6 - 1. Grilled did a good job holding on to the ball, with 52 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.
Barnoldswick's top performer was clearly
Ken Eisenmenger. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by
Hansruedi Oschmann today. Most important Grilled player was
Chan Ze Han. I can't remember
Damian Hutter ever having a worse night than he just had.
