Grilled Birds entered the field in a 2-5-3 formation. The visitors, HEBFC Tonners FC, chose to start the game with a 3-5-2 lineup. Grilled seemed to prefer attacking in the middle, taking advantage of their titanic (15) level with that tactic. For their match strategy, Tonners had decided to use their brilliant (11) ability to counter-attack whenever possible. Grilled had a chance to take the lead after
Kalki Parvathaneni's dazzling drive up the left, but the opportunity fizzled out as his shot went just over the bar after 13 minutes. Some good play on the left wing created an opportunity for the visitors 14 minutes into the match, and
Gay An Soon wasn't about to let it go by. He got past the defenders and fired a shot that the keeper just missed. 0 - 1 for the visitors. Despite hurting his right foot at the 19 minute mark,
Damian Hutter decided to keep playing. It was obvious that team Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings.
Aw Keng Chuan showed the skills that make him a real crowd pleaser as he, after 30 minutes, wove through the guests' entire central defence and put the 1 - 1 equaliser away. The home crowd was not impressed by the fancy moves of Tonners's
Tan Tse Kok after 33 minutes. He converted a pass from the left for a goal, resulting in the visitors taking the 1 - 2 lead. With 37 minutes played, after a good run down the left,
Damian Hutter went down looking for a penalty after a challenge from the visitors' right fullback, but the referee waved play on, and later warned him for diving.
Yong Siong Eng finished off the counterattack of Tonners from the left rather easily, making the score 1 - 3. Grilled's
Bilal Mohammad Harun had seen it all before, so he waited patiently for the right opportunity. He would get no better chance than the one he took, but his shot was deftly blocked by the keeper. The home team's supporters got excited again when
Chan Ze Han broke through the visitors' central defence and caught their keeper off guard, making it 2 - 3. 2 - 3 was the halftime score. Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 66 percent.
After 46 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving
Chad Thach off the field.
Chia Kwang Tse took his place. Some fine passing in the middle of the pitch, carving open the away defence, should have led to a goal for Grilled, but
Damian Hutter's shot went over the bar. In a rapid move 59 minutes into the match,
Yong Siong Eng of Tonners lost his man and passed the ball to the unmarked
Tan Tse Kok who easily hit it home to make it 2 - 4. Luckily the ref didn't see him taunting the opposing fans in celebration - naughty boy! 65 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution.
Gandhik Chitre came on for
Bilal Mohammad Harun. 65 minutes into the game, Tonners wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Andrea Migliozzi gave
Eliot Frankenfeld a quick hug as he left the field.
Jurek Forma was handed the Tonners captain's armband.
Lim An Keng charged down the left and looked sure to score for Grilled 71 minutes into the game, but his shot went just wide. The home crowd was given a certain amount of consolation when
Kalki Parvathaneni scored after a brilliant midfield combination through the centre, reducing the lead to 3 - 4. After 78 minutes, Grilled sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached
Kalki Parvathaneni, who had plenty of space to place a well aimed shot - 4 - 4. As the 80 minute mark approached, the Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution.
Bhavya Panigrahi reluctantly made way for
Gilbert Webb on the pitch. With
Bhavya Panigrahi no longer on the pitch,
Chan Ze Han became the new set pieces taker. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 3 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! Tonners took the lead 90 minutes into the game, making the score 4 - 5 after some elegant movement down the middle.
Gay An Soon was the scorer. The match ends 4 - 5. Grilled had most of the ball, with 65 percent of possession.
Chan Ze Han performed admirably for Grilled. On the other hand,
Enrique Baena's play was disheartening. Tonners's top performer was clearly
Tan Tse Kok.
Eliot Frankenfeld turned in a dismal performance, however.
