Tonners 4 - 3 Grilled

It had rained all day, but 29283 hardy fans still made it out to HEBFC Tonners FC Arena. Abdul-Jabbar Al Bulooshi was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Armin Dehnst and Elwood Bridenstine. While a boggy pitch like this was an advantage for physical players, it really didn't help those who relied on speed or technique. Tonners's starters: Migliozzi - Forma, Ahn, Zabel - Nápoles, Siong Eng, Hariry, Teja, Balkovič - Tse Kok, An Soon.

The following players had been chosen by Grilled: Germanakos - Panigrahi, Webb - Baena, Thach, Keng Chuan, Kwang Tse, Mohammad Harun - Ze Han, Chitre, Parvathaneni.

HEBFC Tonners FC started the game in a 3-5-2 formation, whereas Grilled Birds lined up in a 2-5-3 formation. Grilled mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle, taking advantage of their titanic (15) level with that tactic. Jesse Zabel caused the crowd to go mental with his goal up the middle after 6 minutes. This gave Tonners the 1 - 0 lead. Gandhik Chitre of Grilled was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. Bhavya Panigrahi levelled the score for Grilled, making it 1 - 1 on a free kick that went in by way of the right post. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, as they moved the ball from the wings to the middle with startling regularity. Down the middle came Gandhik Chitre, making a fantastic play that nearly had Grilled take the lead after 21 minutes, but Andrea Migliozzi preserved the tie. Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. Grilled had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially 22 minutes in when Aw Keng Chuan came up alone against Andrea Migliozzi who managed a block. Andrea Migliozzi looked great 23 minutes into the match after stopping a shot from the middle of the penalty area from the visitors' Chan Ze Han. Grilled had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks. Grilled took the lead 28 minutes into the game, making the score 1 - 2 after some elegant movement down the middle. Chan Ze Han was the scorer. 1 - 2 was the score after the first half. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Grilled, with 58 percent of the ball.

46 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Chia Kwang Tse gave Lim An Keng a quick hug as he left the field. The home keeper was stunned 53 minutes into the match when he misjudged the free kick by Bhavya Panigrahi and dived in the wrong direction. The visitors increased the lead to 1 - 3. After 63 minutes, Tonners's Gay An Soon swiftly ran past Bhavya Panigrahi and nutmegged the keeper! 2 - 3. The crowd was on its feet 79 minutes into the match, as Tonners's Tan Tse Kok found himself unmarked in front of the goal after a dash up the left side. He calmly put away the 3 - 3 equaliser. Kalki Parvathaneni would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. Teo Chuan Yong entered the game for Grilled as the match clock showed 80 minutes. Tonners fans held their breath as Jurek Forma scampered down the left side. He successfully avoided all challenges and cracked home the shot for 4 - 3! Grilled's Enrique Baena got himself booked for a foul. Michal Balkovič was in no condition to play on. He left the field limping after 83 minutes, with his right thigh bandaged. Aditya Cariappa tried to hide a smile as he entered the field. He had not expected to get a chance this day. Gandhik Chitre made a good effort at breaking through on the right, but the home team's left defence cleared the ball to a corner. As the 89 minute mark approached, the Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution. Bilal Mohammad Harun reluctantly made way for Paulino Trindade on the pitch. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 3 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 4 - 3. Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 56 percent.

The most dominating Tonners player was without a doubt Tan Tse Kok. However, Andrea Migliozzi made a disastrous appearance. Grilled's top performer was clearly Chan Ze Han. Gandhik Chitre turned in a dismal performance, however.
