The crowd groaned its disapproval when Bhavya Panigrahi missed a free kick that would have given Grilled the lead after 34 minutes. Pirates took the lead after 36 minutes making the score 1 - 2. The keeper had no chance on Daniel Cărăuşu's fine volley fromleft of the net after a cross from the right. The referee showed Pirates's Ignasi Pinatella the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 2. Pirates had the upper hand in possession, maintaining an impressive 54 percent possession of the ball.

46 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution. Prokop Mottl came on for José Luiz Velho. 64 minutes into the game, Prokop Mottl came close to leveling the score with a dangerous shot from the center of the area that went just over the bar.
