The teams had chosen different formations for the match. The home team, Caribbean Dolphins, went for a 2-4-3, while Grilled Birds has decided to play a 2-5-3 lineup. Grilled mostly ignored the flanks in favor of their titanic (15) ability to attack in the middle. Grilled had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle instead. Grilled took the lead 7 minutes into the game, making the score 0 - 1 after some elegant movement down the middle.
Chad Thach was the scorer. 16 minutes in, Caribbean appeared unsure on how to play and their organization was only inadequate (5). 18 minutes into the game, Caribbean seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a poor (3) level of organization. After 22 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
Bilal Mohammad Harun who increased Grilled's lead to 0 - 2. Grilled's
Teo Chuan Yong was shown a yellow card after 25 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
The home crowd was briefly mollified when
Pedro Isidro reduced the lead to 1 - 2 after a brilliant midfield give-and-go through the middle. The ball was in the back of the home team's net yet again after 42 minutes, but this time the referee called the goal back because
Lim An Keng had knocked a member of the opposing team to the ground while the play occurred down the middle of the field. Halftime score was 1 - 2. Grilled had the upper hand in possession, maintaining an impressive 67 percent possession of the ball.
Caribbean's coach went over the strategy again during the break, and after that his players had passable (6) organization. 59 minutes into the game, Caribbean had difficulty finding their positions and their organization dropped to poor (3).
Bilal Mohammad Harun somehow managed to break free of his man on the left wing and only needed a relatively easy finish to bring Grilled's lead up to 1 - 3. 75 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Chad Thach gave
Paulino Trindade a quick hug as he left the field. With the clock showing 75 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board.
Lau Chu Soon looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for
Enrique Baena, though he would have liked to continue. Caribbean's
Guillermo Vellio got the home crowd going bananas when he finished off a left wing bull rush, reducing the away team's lead to 2 - 3.
Chia Kwang Tse came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle, but his attempted chip over
Alojzy Szarlej just kept rising and landed in the relieved crowd. 88 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution.
Atang Mangoye came on for
Mohd Marzuki Khairul. As the match nears its end, the referee deemed it appropriate to add 1 minutes as stoppage time. 89 minutes into the match,
Paulino Trindade came through the middle and almost added to his team's lead, but the shot went wide. The match ends 2 - 3. Grilled did a good job holding on to the ball, with 67 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.
Caribbean's top performer was clearly
Alojzy Szarlej. Good thing
Elio Calai isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. The most outstanding Grilled player was without a doubt
Teo Chuan Yong. I can't remember
Atang Mangoye ever having a worse night than he just had.
