Elmira Kings fielded a 5-3-2 lineup. For Grilled Birds, the formation of choice was a 2-5-3. Elmira's game plan was to sit back and absorb the pressure, then use their divine (20) ability to break on the counter whenever possible. Grilled clearly preferred using their titanic (15) ability to attack in the middle today. After the game, the most discussed event will probably be the penalty awarded after 9 minutes. Despite the controversy,
Bhavya Panigrahi stayed cool and struck it nicely, giving the visitors the 0 - 1 lead. The crowd roared in delight as
Yoël Crasson finished off a spectacular series of plays up the middle to even the score for Elmira after 22 minutes. 1 - 1. The counter-attacks of Elmira were deadly and 24 minutes into the game,
Roi Laine controlled a long pass from the right flank and finished to make it 2 - 1. Everyone had expected a shot from the free kick 36 minutes into the game, but Grilled sent the ball sideways instead, giving
Chia Kwang Tse a clear look at goal with no wall in his way. He sent it through the keeper's legs for 2 - 2! The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 2. Grilled set the tempo, maintaining 68 percent of possession.
With the clock showing 46 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board.
Chia Kwang Tse looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for
Lim An Keng, though he would have liked to continue.
Roi Laine was first to reach a long ball launched through the center from Elmira's defense 52 minutes into the game. He managed to keep his cool and beat the keeper to make the score 3 - 2. The head of
Mick Frasier connected with a beautiful corner kick after 56 minutes. He wasn't shooting, though, but rather passing to
Yoël Crasson of Elmira who buried the shot for 4 - 2. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, and they were successfully passing the ball from the wing into the middle at the behest of their coach.
Fikri Ağırtaş showed why he is feared on the counter-attack, breaking through in the middle and scoring for Elmira after 59 minutes to make the score 5 - 2.
Roi Laine was in the clear after breaking through the offside trap following a Elmira counter-attack from the left with 67 minutes played. His neat finish made the score 6 - 2. He's already scored two, and with the third,
Roi Laine has a hattrick! 74 minutes into the game, Elmira seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a inadequate (5) level of organization. 75 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Chad Thach gave
Paulino Trindade a quick hug as he left the field. As the 75 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution.
Lau Chu Soon reluctantly made way for
Enrique Baena. After 79 minutes, Grilled got a chance to reduce their deficit by way of a penalty, but
Bhavya Panigrahi embarrassed himself by clipping it wide. As the match nears its end, the referee deemed it appropriate to add 2 minutes as stoppage time. 89 minutes into the game, Elmira had difficulty finding their positions and their organization dropped to weak (4). The match ends 6 - 2. Grilled had the upper hand in possession, maintaining an impressive 66 percent possession of the ball.
The most outstanding Elmira player was without a doubt
Roi Laine. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by
Fikri Ağırtaş today.
Teo Chuan Yong performed admirably for Grilled. Good thing
Aw Keng Chuan isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance.
