Castle 2 - 5 Grilled
A scorching day at
Ivory Castle Arena, where 5761 spectators were in place for today's match.
Aage Pallesen was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Kastus' Uroda and
Eugene Rudenberg. The intense heat made it hard for players relying on strength or speed to shine. On the other hand, it provided perfect conditions for the more technical players. The following players had been chosen by Castle:
Mendes Almeida -
Ferreira Tavares,
Antunes -
Vdelas,
Martins Lima,
Rozalis,
Perazo,
Leitão -
Resende,
Fonseca Lopes,
Mashfinj.
Grilled fielded:
Law -
Keng Chuan,
Jian Hui,
Tran -
Mohammad Harun,
An Keng,
Chu Soon,
Kwang Tse,
Mazhud -
Velho,
Ze Han.
Ivory Castle fielded a 2-5-3 lineup. For Grilled Birds, the formation of choice was 3-5-2. Grilled tried to focus their attacks down the middle, taking advantage of their mythical (17) level with that tactic. A sublimely cunning counterattack by Grilled resulted in the awarding of a free kick that
Chan Ze Han brutally hammered, twisting it mid-flight past the flailing hands of the keeper and into the net - 0 - 1! 27 minutes into the game, Castle seemed a little tentative in their play as their organization fell to inadequate (5). Grilled were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally. The visitors'
Abd Hadi Taib Mazhud took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 39 minutes into the match. 0 - 2 for Grilled. Some fine movement on the left led to a Grilled goal after 40 minutes, making it 0 - 3.
José Luiz Velho was noted down as the scorer. After 43 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave
Chan Ze Han a chance to increase the lead for Grilled, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 4. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 4. Possession in this half belonged to Grilled, who controlled the ball 51 percent of the time.
The Castle players spent the break getting a rerun of the team's tactical organisation and regained a solid (7) organisation when the game started again. After 46 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving
Cameron Law off the field.
Mohsen El Khateeb took his place. After 57 minutes, it looked like Castle had an attack coming, but
Lau Chu Soon nipped all that in the bud with a powerful tackle.
Chia Kwang Tse of Grilled was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. With the scoreboard showing that 70 minutes had been played, Grilled nearly put themselves up another goal after
Aw Keng Chuan came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save.
Chia Kwang Tse slowly got up on his feet, clutching his right thigh, but eventually signalled that he was ready to play on. The local team's free kick specialist
Gilberto Antunes, reduced the away team's lead to 1 - 4 with a humdinger of a shot after 78 minutes. After 79 minutes, Grilled were awarded a free kick. Rather than shooting straight at goal, the taker went for an indirect variant which seemed to take his team mates a bit by surprise.
Abd Hadi Taib Mazhud did attempt a finish, but from an awkward position, sending the ball into the away fans.
Dante Tran would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise.
Gilbert Webb entered the game for Grilled as the match clock showed 80 minutes. 80 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Yee Jian Hui gave
Radovan Jaška a quick hug as he left the field. It emerged that
João Joaquim Ferreira Tavares had hurt his left foot after 80 minutes, which led him to abandon the game.
Elísio Silva Pais tried to hide a smile as he entered the field. He had not expected to get a chance this day. The home crowd was given a certain amount of consolation when
Adarijus Rozalis scored after a brilliant midfield combination through the centre, reducing the lead to 2 - 4. After 85 minutes, Grilled's
Aw Keng Chuan burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 2 - 5. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 4 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 2 - 5. Castle enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 51 percent of possession.
Most important Castle player was
Adarijus Rozalis. However,
Faustino Fonseca Lopes made a disastrous appearance. Grilled's top performer was clearly
Chan Ze Han.
Mohsen El Khateeb was a disappointment, however.
