Heineken 5 - 1 Grilled

Fairly good weather for football at the stadium today. Lineup: Pilipeiko - Brandstetter, Jerković, Galardo, Ljúfsson - Maior, Boersma, Dyb, Retzer - Saraliev, Meyes.

The following players had been selected: Vadalà - Panigrahi, Keng Chuan - Xin Lee, Xin Seng, Mohammad Harun, Kamel - Ze Han, Mazhud, Parvathaneni.

Heineken P.F.C. started the game in a 4-4-2 formation, whereas Grilled Birds lined up in a 2-4-3. Using their magical (18) counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for Heineken today. Grilled went for a narrow approach, using their divine (+1) (21) ability to focus their attacks down the middle. After 3 minutes, the defensive line of Heineken created a counter-attack through the middle that gave Alexander Saraliev a good look at goal, but his shot glanced harmlessly off the crossbar. 10 minutes into the game, Grilled had difficulty finding their positions and their organization dropped to inadequate (5). The visitors' central defense should have had no trouble clearing the pass to Alexander Saraliev, but the Heineken player managed to shrug them off and fire a low shot that 5-holed the keeper to give his team the lead. 1 - 0! It was showtime for artist Abd Hadi Taib Mazhud who demonstrated his technical mastery when he dribbled past Giuseppe Galardo and finished with a goal for Grilled to bring the scoreline to 1 - 1. Some great play up the middle by Heineken led to a chance for Jeroen Meyes to get the go-ahead goal with 19 minutes played, but the shot hit the crossbar. Slack defending gave Heineken a chance to take the lead with 21 minutes played, but Alexander Saraliev's cross from the left flank was met gratefully by the opposition who cleared it to safety. 32 minutes into the game, Kalki Parvathaneni almost gave the visitors the lead, as he chipped a delicate lob over the keeper, but the ball glanced harmlessly off the crossbar. 1 - 1 was the score after the first half. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 52 percent possession in this half was spot on!

A review of the gameplan helped Grilled get back to a solid (7) organization to start the second half. Against a lesser team, Heineken could very well have succeeded with their smart indirect free kick combination after 53 minutes. A trio of passes took the ball all the way past the defenders, but by then the intended recipient was blocked off and the keeper could make a leisurely save. Down the middle came Abd Hadi Taib Mazhud, making a fantastic play that nearly saw Grilled take the lead after 69 minutes, but Alexey Pilipeiko preserved the tie. The home side put themselves ahead 2 - 1 after 70 minutes of hard work with a breakthrough from Alexander Saraliev, who, all by his lonesome, came out of the right wing and hooked the ball over the visitors' keeper. Heineken managed to extend their lead to 3 - 1 when Jeroen Meyes slid in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. 72 minutes into the game, Grilled seemed a little tentative in their play as their organization fell to passable (6). As the 75 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution. Aw Keng Chuan reluctantly made way for Gilbert Webb. After 81 minutes, Heineken began to show their lack of experience and they threatened to wilt under the heavy pressure from their opposition. 85 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution. José Luiz Velho came on for Kalki Parvathaneni. 85 minutes into the game, Grilled seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a weak (4) level of organization. Grilled had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle instead. Heineken solidified their lead at the 87 minute mark, as Alexander Saraliev snaked the ball through the central line of defense and finished for 4 - 1. At that, Alexander Saraliev was noted down for a hattrick! Johann Retzer tipped the corner kick right to the keeper, who mishandled it, giving Heineken's Ilie Maior a chance to knock it in for 5 - 1. As the match nears its end, the referee deemed it appropriate to add 2 minutes as stoppage time. The match ends 5 - 1. Grilled did a good job holding on to the ball, with 51 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.

Most important Heineken player was Jeroen Meyes. I can't remember Filip Jerković ever having a worse night than he just had. Grilled's top performer was clearly Chan Ze Han. Good thing Manuel Vadalà isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance.
