Warriors 4 - 3 Grilled
72960 spectators had found their way to
Tarpots Rec., despite the heavy rain.
Sheyh Inomov was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Kuba Kowalczyk and
Milivoj Bertalanić. It is not something you see very often, but on this day some sections of the stadium had been boosted with extra seats so that all fans could be accommodated. While a boggy pitch like this was an advantage for physical players, it really didn't help those who relied on speed or technique. The match took place on neutral ground. The following players took the field for Warriors:
Nastasi -
Simonsen,
Pursiheimo,
van de Steeg -
Medvedkov,
Gallard,
Bova,
Marčić,
Drelles -
Yanes,
Hamerlinck.
Grilled fielded:
Salmiņš -
Panigrahi,
Carapaica -
Kamel,
Chuan Yong,
Kannan,
Ze Han,
Dong Chu -
Mazhud,
Xin Lee,
Mudaliar.
East Coast Warriors entered the field in a 3-5-2 formation. The visitors, Grilled Birds, chose to start the game with a 2-5-3 lineup. Grilled clearly preferred using their divine (+4) (24) ability to attack in the middle.
Francesco Bova gave Warriors the lead as he successfully challenged the guests' central defenders, then slotted the ball into the bottom corner, giving the keeper no chance. 1 - 0 Grilled levelled the score after 14 minutes to make it 1 - 1, as
Abd Hadi Taib Mazhud struck home after a fine midfield combination through the centre, which left him completely unmarked. Warriors fans held their breath as
Francesco Bova scampered down the left side. He successfully avoided all challenges and cracked home the shot for 2 - 1! The visitors kept the pressure on to tie the game when, after 25 minutes,
Chu Xin Lee broke through the centre and found himself alone with the keeper.
Patrizio Nastasi made a great block, though. After 26 minutes,
Frank Simonsen took a hard knock between his legs. He needed a long breather but were eventually able to continue the game.
Douglas Carapaica made a run for the goal 27 minutes into the game but the home team's left back managed to sort the situation out in the end. It was 2 - 1 at the break. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Grilled, with 61 percent of the ball.
A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Warriors to 3 - 1 as
Julien Gallard finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle. The crowd roared its approval when
Patrizio Nastasi somehow managed to block a shot which seemed to be a certain goal by Grilled's
Salah Kamel 69 minutes into the game, following a good move through the middle. 72 minutes into the game, Grilled's attack got through on the right, but
Heng Dong Chu couldn't handle the ball and his feeble kick wound up in the keeper's arms. The score became 4 - 1 at 81 minutes into the game, when Warriors were given a penalty which
Frank Simonsen blasted straight down the middle giving the keeper no chance! Grilled managed to reduce the score to 4 - 2 as
Douglas Carapaica finished off a well-played combination from the left, easily carving through the defence. The visitors' right side was dangerous today;
Chan Ze Han made the home team's keeper look foolish as he easily scored to reduce the lead to 4 - 3 84 minutes into the match. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 3 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 4 - 3. Possession in this half belonged to Grilled, who controlled the ball 61 percent of the time.
The most dominating Warriors player was without a doubt
Luis Enrique Yanes.
Francesco Bova was a disappointment, however.
Chu Xin Lee performed admirably for Grilled.
Bhavya Panigrahi turned in a dismal performance, however.
