Schwalbe S.V. fielded a 3-5-2 lineup. For Grilled Birds, the formation of choice was a 2-5-3. Grilled mostly ignored the flanks in favor of their divine (+6) (26) ability to attack in the middle.
Ndiogou N'Diong's name was chanted throughout the stadium after his goal in minute 2 following a run up the middle gave Schwalbe the 1 - 0 lead. 17 minutes into the game Grilled's
Kalki Parvathaneni found a gap in the home side's central defense and scored with a fabulous shot, making it 1 - 1.
Nguyễn Phúc Anh seemed to fly off the ground as the corner came into the box, but his header went straight to the man on the post. Everyone had expected a shot from the free kick 21 minutes into the game, but Schwalbe sent the ball sideways instead, giving
Andriy Chemerys a clear look at goal with no wall in his way. He sent it through the keeper's legs for 2 - 1! Schwalbe's
Ndiogou N'Diong was delighted to score as he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing keeper and into the net, following some good attacking movement on the right wing. 3 - 1 after 38 minutes. Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. With 40 minutes played, Grilled showed they hadn't given up and were able to reduce the score to 3 - 2 when
Salah Kamel got past the home side's central defenders right in front of the goal. Schwalbe solidified their lead at the 41 minute mark, as
Sandro 'Impressionist' van Gogh snaked the ball through the central line of defense and finished for 4 - 2. Halftime score was 4 - 2. Neither team was controlling possession at this point in the match.
46 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Salah Kamel gave
Abd Hadi Taib Mazhud a quick hug as he left the field. A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Schwalbe's
Demetrio 'Il Falco' Boeri bringing the lead up to 5 - 2. Grilled were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up coming through the center. The home team's fans were upset when, after 54 minutes, the visiting
Teo Chuan Yong broke through the central defense and got the ball past the keeper. 5 - 3 was the score. A particularly graphic suggestion to the referee describing what he could do with his turkey giblets led to a straight red card for
Demetrio 'Il Falco' Boeri.
Chu Xin Lee had a good opportunity to reply with a break through the middle, but the home team's goalkeeper
Hazaa’ Bin-Byait just wouldn't be beat. Cornered close to the sidelines,
Constantin 'Ballista' Knallkööm manages to wiggle his way past his marker, and then places it perfectly in the channel for a break-away.
Sandro 'Impressionist' van Gogh of Schwalbe finished off the counter-attack from the left rather easily, making it 6 - 3. The visitors got a chance to pulling one back after 79 minutes, due to a defensive blunder leaving
Kalki Parvathaneni completely unmarked. His strike was pathetic though, rolling slowly to the home side's keeper. With the clock showing 80 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board.
Douglas Carapaica looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for
Gilbert Webb, though he would have liked to continue. Schwalbe showed their counter-attacking skill 80 minutes into the match by breaking through the middle, with
Ndiogou N'Diong scoring an easy goal for 7 - 3. That was his third goal of the match - a hattrick for
Ndiogou N'Diong! That's the name of the game! The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 3 beyond the regular 90 minutes. The match ends 7 - 3. Grilled did a good job holding on to the ball, with 52 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.
Schwalbe's top performer was clearly
Sandro 'Impressionist' van Gogh. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because
Constantin 'Ballista' Knallkööm seemed to stumble all over the pitch.
Chan Ze Han performed admirably for Grilled. I can't remember
Kalki Parvathaneni ever having a worse night than he just had.
