The coaches were in sync today, as both teams lined up in a 2-5-3 formation. Grilled used their divine (+6) (26) ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the field.
Gilbert Webb could have put Grilled into the lead with 12 minutes played, but the free kick went just wide. franssen's
Maurice ter Heide soared above the crowd, but couldn't knock home the corner 19 minutes into the match. The 24 minute mark saw the home team take a 1 - 0 lead after a breaking through on the left. The scorer for Grilled was
Teo Chuan Yong. franssen tied it all up, 36 minutes in, after a spectacular goal by
Maurice ter Heide, who miraculously broke through the home side's central defense, making it 1 - 1. 43 minutes into the game, a swerving free kick by
Gilbert Webb almost resulted in the home team taking the lead, but the shot glanced harmlessly off the frame of the goal. 1 - 1 was the score after the first half. Grilled set the tempo, maintaining 56 percent of possession.
It was a fine day for
Maurice ter Heide down the touchline, and his cross to
Damian Neve 63 minutes in was executed especially well, but the keeper saved the ensuing shot. Though it was beautiful soccer, the home crowd did not enjoy
Damian Neve's goal after a run down the left with 64 minutes on the clock. franssen lead, 1 - 2. With the clock showing 75 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board.
Abderrahmane Taleb looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for
Matthys van Goolen, though he would have liked to continue. As the 75 minute mark approached, the franssen manager decided it was time for a substitution.
Ceder Jonk reluctantly made way for
Jernst Tuinenburg. As
Ceder Jonk left the field, the coach signaled to
Matthys van Goolen to be the new set pieces taker. Grilled's
Bernie Egan showed his experience, anticipating the outcome of his opponent's defensive clearance and positioning himself perfectly to strike an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box. 2 - 2. The guests almost went up by a goal with 79 minutes elapsed when
Maurice ter Heide came through from the right. The shot bounced harmlessly off the post, though. franssen's
Maurice ter Heide managed to lose the defenders as he burst through the right side and scored, putting the visitors ahead, 2 - 3. After 83 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
Addy Ivens who increased franssen's lead to 2 - 4. After 84 minutes, franssen's lack of experience resulted in the team's loss of their edge at the end of the game.
Chan Ze Han of Grilled displayed some of his fantastic technical abilities when he brought the ball down neatly using his instep before megging the bewildered
Matthys van Goolen and smashing an unstoppable shot past the goalkeeper to make it 3 - 4. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 3 beyond the regular 90 minutes. The match ends 3 - 4. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 55 percent possession in this half was spot on!
The most outstanding Grilled player was without a doubt
Chan Ze Han. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by
Gilbert Webb today. franssen's top performer was clearly
Maurice ter Heide. Speaking of stinking up the place,
Matthys van Goolen sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham.
