Grilled 5 - 2 Futbol
The spectators at the stadium today were in for an afternoon of sunshine. For some players the sunny weather was bad news. It made Powerful and Quick players a bit sluggish. For Technical players, it was instead an advantage, allowing them to shine on the pitch. The following players took the field:
Vadalà -
Lunde,
Jeftić -
ter Berg,
Xin Lee,
Mohammad Harun,
Chuan Yong,
Dong Chu -
Mudaliar,
Ze Han,
Egan.
Lineup:
Dudok -
Jamaica,
Hişam,
Reinhardt -
Cowper,
Werbrouck,
Leal,
Kornatowski,
Abanto -
Getzinger,
Krzywousty.
Grilled Birds started the game in a 2-5-3 formation, whereas Ara Futbol Club lined up in a 3-5-2. Futbol took the lead 6 minutes into the game, making the score 0 - 1 after some elegant movement down the middle.
Pedro Jamaica was the scorer. 13 minutes into the game, Futbol worked the left side industriously creating several opportunities to add to their lead, but just couldn't apply the finishing touch. Grilled were awarded a penalty 19 minutes into the game, but
Mateja Jeftić was too cocky and went for the chip down the middle, which
Kevin Dudok managed to save.
Rafał Krzywousty somehow managed to break free of his man on the left wing and only needed a relatively easy finish to bring Futbol's lead up to 0 - 2. On a penalty with 24 minutes played, Grilled's
Mateja Jeftić placed the ball low and to the keeper's right, impossible to block. 1 - 2. 1 - 2 was the score after the first half. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 63 percent possession in this half was spot on!
After 48 minutes of play,
Kalle ter Berg equalized for Grilled after a hard charging attack from the right. Grilled had a good opportunity to take the lead as
Vikram Mudaliar came up the left side, but he struck the ball weakly and it went straight into the arms of
Kevin Dudok. After 56 minutes, Grilled's
Bernie Egan ran past
Pedro Jamaica like he was standing still to put away the 3 - 2 goal. After 60 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving
Kalle ter Berg off.
吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong) took his place. 60 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Heng Dong Chu gave
Kalki Parvathaneni a quick hug as he left the field. Grilled's
Bernie Egan swung in a good chance from the left, but the visitors' defense were able to clear the ball. 71 minutes into the game, Grilled were awarded a penalty that
Mateja Jeftić converted into a bigger lead without so much as a how-do-you-do to the visiting keeper. It's 4 - 2 now! Grilled put themselves up 5 - 2 when
吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong) broke through on the right, leaving the entire defensive delegation behind him. As the 80 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution.
Sølve Lunde reluctantly made way for
Gilbert Webb. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 2 minutes of added time, they welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. The match ends 5 - 2. Grilled had the upper hand in possession, maintaining an impressive 66 percent possession of the ball.
Grilled's best player was
Chan Ze Han. I can't remember
Manuel Vadalà ever having a worse night than he just had.
Pedro Jamaica performed admirably for Futbol. Good thing
Jude Cowper isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance.
