R.C.R. 2 - 3 Grilled

The fans braved the pouring rain at the stadium today. The wet pitch made it difficult for technical or quick players to stand out. For once, the players relying on physical strength gained the upper hand. Starters: Aşkan - Costa, 育德 (Yude), Adriazola, Martelli, Peñaloza - Noah, Rodríguez, Najim - Preusche, Mauchenheim.

The following players had been selected: Salmiņš - Lunde, Jeftić - Kamel, Chuan Yong, ter Berg, Mohammad Harun, Dong Chu - Parvathaneni, Ze Han, Xin Seng.

The teams had chosen different formations for the match. The home team, R.C.R. FC, went for a 5-3-2, while Grilled Birds has decided to play a 2-5-3 lineup. A divine (+5) (25) level of counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of R.C.R.. Grilled mostly ignored the flanks in favor of their divine (+7) (27) ability to attack in the middle. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, and they were successfully passing the ball from the wing into the middle at the behest of their coach. Pamir Aşkan looked great 4 minutes in after stopping a shot by the visitors' Kalki Parvathaneni. R.C.R. made a good counter-attacking move down the left 5 minutes into the game, and 瞿 (Qu) 育德 (Yude) finished well for 1 - 0. R.C.R.'s Yannik Preusche was shown a yellow card after 26 minutes for slicing down an opponent. Grilled got a chance to level the scores in minute 27 as Kalle ter Berg suddenly found himself free with only the keeper to beat, but the finish hit the bar. After 29 minutes, the visitors evened the score after Sølve Lunde made it through the middle and struck home making it 1 - 1. 1 - 1 was the halftime score. Grilled set the tempo, maintaining 69 percent of possession.

Grilled took the lead 50 minutes into the game, making the score 1 - 2 after some elegant movement down the middle. Salah Kamel was the scorer. 72 minutes into the game, Grilled worked the left side industriously creating several opportunities to add to their lead, but just couldn't apply the finishing touch. As the 75 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution. Mateja Jeftić reluctantly made way for Bhavya Panigrahi. With Mateja Jeftić no longer on the field, Bhavya Panigrahi stepped up to be the new set pieces taker. After the ball was lifted in from the left, Sølve Lunde was on his own in the home side's penalty area and should have scored after 75 minutes, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration. With 76 minutes gone, a long pass from the defense of R.C.R. resulted in a counter-attack that set François-Xavier Noah free through the middle, but the keeper made a spectacular diving save. 80 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Kalki Parvathaneni gave Vikram Mudaliar a quick hug as he left the field. 80 minutes into the match, R.C.R.'s François-Xavier Noah demonstrated his running prowess as he raced past his defender and passed the ball to Yannik Preusche who chipped it in for 2 - 2. A free kick aimed at the keeper's far post almost gave Grilled the lead 83 minutes in, but the ball just wasn't able to squirm its way through the defensive wall. The Grilled free kick 86 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But it was no mistake - Vikram Mudaliar seemingly came out of nowhere and had miles of space to control the ball and pick his spot. That's 2 - 3! It was announced by the fourth official that he estimated stoppage time to be around 2 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 2 - 3. Grilled did a good job holding on to the ball, with 69 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.

Yannik Preusche performed admirably for R.C.R.. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by François-Xavier Noah today. Grilled's best player was Chan Ze Han. Good thing Bhavya Panigrahi isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance.
