Drag 1 - 4 Grilled

The fans at the stadium today were roasting in the hot sun. It was a sunny day and the technical players could roll the ball around with ease. Those that had to chase after the ball found the weather less appealing, it especially stymied the game of Powerful and Quick players. The following players had been selected: Ciria - Wamfor, Charta - Triana, Martell, Solana, Castell, Polhoš - Rubalcaba, Klemczak, Nervo.

They fielded: Salmiņš - Lunde, Jeftić - Kamel, Chuan Yong, ter Berg, Mohammad Harun, Dong Chu - Parvathaneni, Ze Han, Xin Seng.

The teams stopped and stared at each other - it was like they were looking in a mirror, since they both lined up in a 2-5-3 formation. See how Enrique Charta has had to abandon his regular position to follow Bilal Mohammad Harun around? That leaves a big gap for his mates to cover! Everyone had expected a shot from the free kick 10 minutes into the game, but Grilled sent the ball sideways instead, giving Salah Kamel a clear look at goal with no wall in his way. He sent it through the keeper's legs for 0 - 1! 22 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 2 as Sølve Lunde finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular bicycle kick. After more pushing and shoving than a pack of helicopter moms trying to get the last appointment for their snowflakes to see the Easter Bunny, Drag's Enrique Charta finally got himself booked for a foul. After 27 minutes, Grilled's Kalki Parvathaneni burst through the central defense and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 3. A defender managed to keep the ball from crossing the goal-line after a curling shot from the right by Heng Dong Chu beat the keeper with 30 minutes played, preventing Grilled from going up another goal. Big paper red cards were being held up by the opposing supporters with 37 minutes on the clock after Salah Kamel's mistimed tackle from behind. The referee only showed the Grilled player a yellow card though. 0 - 3 was the halftime score. Grilled set the tempo, maintaining 54 percent of possession.

A thrilling play through the middle after 67 minutes gave Grilled's Chan Ze Han a chance to increase the lead, and he happily obliged. The score was then 0 - 4. The referee showed Drag's Julio Triana the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. After playing for 72 minutes and finding his team in a losing position, the manager hoped to turn things around. José Rubalcaba was ordered to assume a different position on the field and switched places with Diego Martell. With 72 minutes played, Julio Triana was very close to reducing the deficit for Drag with a low drive from the left, but a defender stuck his foot out just in the nick of time, blocking the shot for a corner. After 73 minutes, the Drag coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving Diego Martell off. David Bordeje took his place. David Bordeje was handed the Drag captain's armband. A spectacular Drag effort on the right resulted in a goal at the 74 minute mark by Bassey Wamfor, making the score 1 - 4. With the clock showing 75 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board. Mateja Jeftić looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for Bhavya Panigrahi, though he would have liked to continue. With Mateja Jeftić no longer on the field, Bhavya Panigrahi was the new set pieces taker. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Drag's Horacio Nervo got himself booked. Vladislav Polhoš almost lowered the gap having danced through the entire left side of the defense, but the shot went straight into the arms of the goalkeeper. 80 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution. Vikram Mudaliar came on for Kalki Parvathaneni. Grilled's Kalle ter Berg was shown a yellow card after 84 minutes for slicing down an opponent. The fourth official announced that there would be 2 minutes of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. The match ends 1 - 4. Well, look at this! Cardi B is on the Enormotron in naught but giant sunglasses, red tassles, and a Holy Hand Grenades of Antioch tank top. I've not seen anything like it before. The most outstanding Drag player was without a doubt Horacio Nervo. Speaking of stinking up the place, Enrique Charta sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham. Grilled's best player was Chan Ze Han. I can't remember Bilal Mohammad Harun ever having a worse night than he just had.
