Grilled 3 - 4 Excalibur

Fairly good weather for football at the stadium today. The following players had been selected: Salmiņš - Panigrahi, Jeftić - Chuan Yong, Xin Seng, Mohammad Harun, Kamel, Parvathaneni - Ze Han, Mudaliar, Egan.

Lineup: Giordanengo - Cicetti, Abacha, Al-Hanthaly, Earp - Loghmani, Berrocal, Delcea, Csákány, Yamunaque - Arvanitis.

It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 2-5-3 formation while the visitors instead opted for a 4-5-1. Grilled seemed to prefer attacking in the middle, using their divine (+7) (27) ability to great effect. A magical (18) level of counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Excalibur. Vikram Mudaliar's name was chanted throughout the stadium after his goal in minute 22 following a run up the middle gave Grilled the 1 - 0 lead. Grilled had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle instead. After 30 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by Bernie Egan might have resulted in another goal for Grilled. However, Bruno Giordanengo made a spectacular save. After more pushing and shoving than a pack of helicopter moms trying to get the last appointment for their snowflakes to see the Easter Bunny, Excalibur's Cristian Delcea finally got himself booked for a foul. After 34 minutes, Excalibur's Valentino Arvanitis surprised everyone as he managed to intercept a pass intended for the opposing keeper and flip it up and in, making the score 1 - 1. Grilled were very close to putting themselves one up with 35 minutes gone as Bilal Mohammad Harun got through on the left, but a lapse in concentration sent the ball wide. Grilled had a chance to take the lead after Vikram Mudaliar's dazzling drive up the left, but the opportunity fizzled away as his shot went just over the bar with 42 minutes played. After 43 minutes, a well-worked counter-attack by Excalibur on the right gave Fabián Berrocal an easy opportunity in front of the goal. He duly converted to make it 1 - 2. 1 - 2 was the score after the first half. Well, look at this! Cardi B is on the Enormotron in naught but giant sunglasses, red tassles, and a Holy Hand Grenades of Antioch tank top. I've not seen anything like it before. After 49 minutes of play, Bernie Egan evened things up for Grilled with an impressive goal coming up the middle. 2 - 2. Many thought Vikram Mudaliar ought to have been awarded a penalty 54 minutes into the match, as he went down trying to beat Bruno Giordanengo after an attack through the middle gave him the one-on-one opportunity. 60 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Teo Chuan Yong gave 吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong) a quick hug as he left the field. As the 60 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution. Salah Kamel reluctantly made way for Kalle ter Berg. It was obvious that Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle when they directed a break on the wing into the center of the park. Vikram Mudaliar gave Grilled the 3 - 2 lead, as he successfully challenged the guests' central defenders, then placed the ball at the keeper's right post – what a clinical finish! As the match nears its end, the referee deemed it appropriate to add 2 minutes as stoppage time. Valentino Arvanitis earned himself a loud roar from the fans as he seemed to come out of nowhere with 90 minutes played to intercept the ball and put it in the back of the net for Excalibur. 3 - 3. The bleachers were silenced after 91 minutes when Excalibur's Mahram Loghmani put the guests ahead 3 - 4, following an attack on the right. The match ends 3 - 4. Grilled had the upper hand in possession, maintaining an impressive 61 percent possession of the ball.

Grilled's top performer was clearly Chan Ze Han. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by Kalki Parvathaneni today. Valentino Arvanitis performed admirably for Excalibur. Speaking of stinking up the place, Iván Yamunaque sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham.
