The teams had chosen different formations for the match. The home team, Sevilla Guam, went for a 3-5-2, while Grilled Birds has decided to play a 2-5-3 lineup. Grilled went for a narrow approach, using their divine (+8) (28) ability to focus their attacks down the middle. The home side put themselves ahead 1 - 0 after 24 minutes of hard work with a breakthrough from
Jannes Adams, who, all by his lonesome, came out of the right wing and hooked the ball over the visitors' keeper. Grilled tied it all up, 27 minutes in, after a spectacular goal by
Teo Chuan Yong, who miraculously broke through the home side's central defense, making it 1 - 1. Grilled had a good opportunity to score the go-ahead goal after a combination on the right but the home team's keeper
Saveliy Butakov saved
Vikram Mudaliar's shot that was headed straight to the top corner. The visiting
Chan Ze Han was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 39 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 1 - 2 was the score. Big paper red cards were being held up by the opposing supporters with 40 minutes on the clock after
Eddie Cases's mistimed tackle from behind. The referee only showed the SeGu player a yellow card though. 41 minutes into the match, the Speedy Gonzalez-like
Bernie Egan easily outran
Gonçal Llorens to knock in the 1 - 3 goal. A thrilling play through the middle after 42 minutes gave Grilled's
Chan Ze Han a chance to increase the lead, and he happily obliged. The score was then 1 - 4. Grilled's
Chan Ze Han received a ball slotted perfectly through the home side's central defense after 43 minutes, and chipped it past the helpless keeper to increase the lead to 1 - 5. The away fans won't regret traveling for this one! That made three goals for
Chan Ze Han. He'll be taking the match ball home with him having scored a hattrick! Halftime score was 1 - 5. Grilled set the tempo, maintaining 63 percent of possession.
After 46 minutes, Grilled's
Kalki Parvathaneni burst through the central defense and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 1 - 6.
Teo Chuan Yong was ever so close to scoring after an excellent corner was perfectly redirected by
Bhavya Panigrahi, but the ball went off the post and out.
Chan Ze Han came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle, but his attempted chip over
Saveliy Butakov just kept rising and landed in the relieved crowd. Maybe it was because of his team's lead, or maybe it was due to the ease with which he broke down the left, but
Bernie Egan was a bit too sure of his talents, so instead of taking the easy tap-in goal after 55 minutes, he went for the backheel, which he put woefully wide. With the clock showing 60 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board.
Bhavya Panigrahi looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for
Gilbert Webb, though he would have liked to continue. After more pushing and shoving than a pack of helicopter moms trying to get the last appointment for their snowflakes to see the Easter Bunny, Grilled's
Kalki Parvathaneni finally got himself booked for a foul. As the 80 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution.
Teo Chuan Yong reluctantly made way for
吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong). 80 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution.
Bilal Mohammad Harun came on for
Salah Kamel. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 3 beyond the regular 90 minutes. The ball was in the back of the home team's net yet again after 90 minutes, but this time the referee called the goal back because
Bernie Egan had knocked a member of the opposing team to the ground while the play occurred down the middle of the field. The match ends 1 - 6. Grilled had the upper hand in possession, maintaining an impressive 63 percent possession of the ball.
SeGu's top performer was clearly
Pau Aiguabella. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because
Terry Persson seemed to stumble all over the pitch.
Chan Ze Han performed admirably for Grilled. Speaking of stinking up the place,
Manuel Vadalà sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham.
