Grilled Birds fielded a 2-5-3 lineup. For Singapore Big Dogs, the formation of choice was 4-4-2. Grilled seemed to prefer attacking in the middle, taking advantage of their divine (+7) (27) level with that tactic. For their match strategy, Singapore had decided to use their titanic (15) ability to counter-attack whenever possible. It was obvious that team Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings. After a fine move down the middle
Gilbert Webb nearly gave the home side a goal after 6 minutes. However the finishing shot went just wide. 13 minutes had elapsed when a great chance for Grilled to take the lead after a good cross from the right found
吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong) alone with the keeper, but he chipped it to the wrong side of the post. Singapore caught their opponents out with a clever counterattack down the right wing 14 minutes into the match.
Tomas Svensson was able to finish off the move - 0 - 1. After 19 minutes,
Mahesh Murthy sprinted between the opposing defenders and squared the ball, but the keeper deflected
Deng Yew Leong's shot. The crowd chanted their encouragement as Grilled's
Vikram Mudaliar came in from the right after 23 minutes and put the ball in the net to level the score at 1 - 1. Almost all the way down to the corner flag, Grilled's
Chu Xin Lee somehow managed to get a perfect pass into the middle, impossible to miss for
Bilal Mohammad Harun, who struck for 2 - 1. Grilled's
Kalki Parvathaneni saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 28 minutes. There was a promising attack by Grilled after 33 minutes, but it was ultimately closed down by the powerful presence of
Alex Zhang. 2 - 1 was the halftime score. Grilled had most of the ball, with 59 percent of possession.
After 60 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving
Neeraj Muthyala off the field.
Teo Chuan Yong took his place. As the 60 minute mark approached, the Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution.
吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong) reluctantly made way for
Cyril Künzler on the pitch.
吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong) was coming off, and had placed his last free kick for the day. That meant that
Cyril Künzler got the chance to showcase his dead ball skills. Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. Cheers filled the stadium as
Kalki Parvathaneni broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 3 - 1 to Grilled. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
Vinod Modi from Singapore a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 68 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
Jani Lindqvist knocked one home from a counterattack down the right wing, making the score 3 - 2 after 71 minutes.
Chan Ze Han unleashed a swerving effort from the right that the visitors' keeper did well to tip wide.
Bhavya Panigrahi would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise.
Mateja Jeftić entered the game for Grilled as the match clock showed 75 minutes.
Vikram Mudaliar of Grilled received a yellow card after 76 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. Coming through the middle
Tomas Svensson almost scored the equaliser for Singapore after 77 minutes, but
Massoud Dob made an excellent save, tipping the awkward curled shot past the post. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 2 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 3 - 2. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Grilled, with 58 percent of the ball.
The most dominating Grilled player was without a doubt
Chan Ze Han.
Mateja Jeftić on the other hand, had a terrible day. Most important Singapore player was
Deng Yew Leong. However,
Vinod Modi made a disastrous appearance.
