Grilled 3 - 1 Puertuense

Dark skies made the crowd of 2960 at The Cooking Pot a little nervous, but the rain held off. Cătălin Halic was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Trpimir Čular and Florian Châtelet. The following players had been chosen by Grilled: Vadalà - Jeftić, Thevar - Künzler, ter Berg, Chuan Yong, Muthyala, Jaška - Egan, Mottl, Jian Hui.

The following players took the field for Puertuense: Mørch - Roldán, Cabrero, Espinet - Vivonis, Alzamora, Tirado, Marchant González, Santiago - López, Arroyo.

Grilled Birds started the game in a 2-5-3 formation, whereas Puertuense Rico FC lined up in a 3-5-2 formation. Grilled displayed their titanic (15) ability to play creatively. After 2 minutes, Cyril Künzler came in from the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to make the score 1 - 0, giving Grilled the lead. As Prokop Mottl had, completely unprovoked, swept the legs out from under an opponent in front of a linesman, the referee gave the Grilled player a red card without batting an eyelid. After 12 minutes a well-practised indirect free kick routine by Grilled was easily anticipated by the defenders. The players forward were so well marked, they were left with few viable options. Neeraj Muthyala had a fantastic opportunity to put Grilled up another goal 24 minutes into the match after a pass through the middle set him free, but he fired just over the crossbar. Joseph Cabrero was the first to reach the corner kick, but his header was blocked by the keeper. However, Puertuense's José Luis Arroyo managed to get hold of the rebound and tucked the ball into the empty net. 1 - 1 Many thought Teo Chuan Yong ought to have been awarded a penalty 27 minutes into the game, as he went down trying to dribble around Janus Mørch after a determined run through the middle. After a fine move down the middle Bernie Egan nearly gave the home side a goal after 34 minutes. However the finishing shot went just wide. It was 1 - 1 at the break. Possession in this half belonged to Grilled, who controlled the ball 68 percent of the time.

46 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Neeraj Muthyala gave José Luiz Velho a quick hug as he left the field. Kalle ter Berg was the new captain of Grilled - handed the armband by the departing player. After 46 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving Chirag Thevar off the field. Dante Tran took his place. They were singing the praises of Teo Chuan Yong 48 minutes into the match after his speculative chip from the middle of the penalty box found its way over the visitors' keeper to make the score 2 - 1 to Grilled. With 64 minutes played, Bernie Egan could have brought this one home for Grilled as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high. With 72 minutes played, Grilled's Radovan Jaška almost extended the lead, but his shot from the left glanced off the top of the bar to fall behind the net. With 82 minutes played, Grilled's well-worked indirect free kick caused havoc in the penalty area, and when the ball eventually fell to Dante Tran he gleefully slotted the ball home to make it 3 - 1. José Luiz Velho could have put Grilled up one more, but he fired into the side netting after breaking free on the left after 84 minutes. Kalle ter Berg of Grilled was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 1 minute. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! Coming in on the left, José Luis Arroyo did everything right to get a goal for Puertuense after 89 minutes, but his finishing shot was stabbed clear by the keeper. The match ends 3 - 1. Grilled had most of the ball, with 65 percent of possession.

Kalle ter Berg performed admirably for Grilled. On the other hand, Dante Tran's play was disheartening. The most dominating Puertuense player was without a doubt Benito López. Janus Mørch turned in a dismal performance, however.
