Demoledores 2 - 6 Grilled

The spectators at the stadium today were in for an afternoon of sunshine. The weather was sunny, which meant perfect conditions for technical players in both teams. However, it was also quite warm, which meant quick or physically strong players were drained faster and couldn't play their best game. Lineup: Corniani - Kjellwald, Kontić, Kenny - Cedeño, Efşan, Hayal, Frotzos - Manares, Arizmendi, Álvarez.

They fielded: Dob - Webb, Jeftić - 敬龙 (Jinglong), ter Berg, Ze Han, Kamel, Xin Lee - Parvathaneni, Xin Seng, Mudaliar.

The teams had chosen different formations for the match. The home team, Demoledores F.C., went for a 3-4-3, while Grilled Birds has decided to play a 2-5-3 lineup. Demoledores used their magical (18) ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the field. Grilled clearly preferred using their divine (+7) (27) ability to attack in the middle today. The visitors' central defense should have had no trouble clearing the pass to Gonzalo Manares, but the Demoledores player managed to shrug them off and fire a low shot that 5-holed the keeper to give his team the lead. 1 - 0! The visitors' equalizer seemed inevitable after 23 minutes, following a one on one situation around the left hand side of the goal area, but Rossano Corniani got the best of it, blocking the shot from Vikram Mudaliar. The visitors were awarded a penalty by the referee 24 minutes into the match, much to the anger of the home crowd. Mateja Jeftić took advantage of the situation and scored to make it 1 - 1. Colin Kenny is making an astonishing dash. The fans are chanting his name. You can hear it reverberate around the stadium. Now a manic sprint up the middle and into the box. Oh! He's thrown open the door! He's thrown open the door, shot the ball through, and slammed the door shut on Mr. Tumnus! Demoledores has taken the lead 32 minutes into the match, 2 to 1. There'll be no Turkish Delight after the match for the keeper! 2 - 1 was the halftime score. Grilled set the tempo, maintaining 60 percent of possession.

53 minutes into the game Grilled's Kalle ter Berg found a gap in the home side's central defense and scored with a fabulous shot, making it 2 - 2. Grilled's Kalki Parvathaneni could have put the guests one up 57 minutes in after chasing a through ball from the right, but Rossano Corniani was as quick as a snake, grabbing the ball from under his nose. 58 minutes into the match, Grilled's Vikram Mudaliar demonstrated his running prowess as he raced past his defender and passed the ball to Chu Xin Lee who chipped it in for 2 - 3. After 59 minutes, Grilled's Chu Xin Lee burst through the central defense and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 2 - 4. 60 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution. Neeraj Muthyala came on for 吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong). After 60 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving Mateja Jeftić off. Bhavya Panigrahi took his place. Mateja Jeftić was coming off, and had taken his last free kick for the day. That meant Neeraj Muthyala got the chance to showcase his dead ball skills. The game had been going for 60 minutes when Kalki Parvathaneni broke through on the right, upping the score to 2 - 5 for Grilled, much to the home crowd's dismay. After 68 minutes, Grilled sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached Kalle ter Berg, who had plenty of time to shoot and score - 2 - 6. As the 80 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution. Kalle ter Berg reluctantly made way for Bilal Mohammad Harun. As the match nears its end, the referee deemed it appropriate to add 2 minutes as stoppage time. The match ends 2 - 6. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 60 percent possession in this half was spot on!

Demoledores's top performer was clearly Jeffrey Álvarez. I can't remember José Fernando Cedeño ever having a worse night than he just had. Most important Grilled player was Kalki Parvathaneni. Good thing Neeraj Muthyala isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance.
