It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 5-5-0 formation while the visitors instead opted for a 2-5-3. Lunacane mostly relied on their divine (+3) long range shooting ability. Grilled mostly ignored the flanks in favor of their divine (+6) ability to attack in the middle. Everyone had expected a shot from the free kick 32 minutes into the game, but Lunacane sent the ball sideways instead, giving
Fortunat Künzi a clear look at goal with no wall in his way. He sent it through the keeper's legs for 1 - 0! Lunacane succeeded with their tactics after 33 minutes by faking a cross into the penalty area, but instead passing short to the side for a waiting
Walter Zaccardi who met the ball directly with his muscular right leg. The keeper got his hands to the hard long shot, but it wasn't enough to stop it from going in. 2 - 0. With 40 minutes played, Lunacane's
Luciano Kamber received a yellow card for challenging a play with his cleats first. A well-executed free kick by
David Omazzi after 41 minutes made it 3 - 0 for Lunacane. 42 minutes in,
Salah Kamel made an incredible run up the middle and nearly reduced the home side's lead, but
Yoran van den Berk refused to let the ball slip by him. 3 - 0 was the score after the first half. Grilled set the tempo, maintaining 51 percent of possession.
It was obvious that Lunacane set up their play to get a shooter in position, and after 47 minutes they succeeded with their tactics when
Luciano Kamber found a hole in the defense and his long shot left the keeper without a chance. 4 - 0. 75 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Bhavya Panigrahi gave
悠太 (Yuta) 中北 (Nakakita) a quick hug as he left the field. As
Bhavya Panigrahi left the field, the coach signaled to
悠太 (Yuta) 中北 (Nakakita) to start taking the set pieces that occurred. The visitors got a chance to pulling one back after 81 minutes, due to a defensive blunder leaving
Bilal Mohammad Harun completely unmarked. His strike was pathetic though, rolling slowly to the home side's keeper. With 85 minutes gone, a long pass from the defense of Lunacane resulted in a counter-attack that set
Lodewijk Regeer free through the middle, but the keeper made a spectacular diving save. It was announced by the fourth official that he estimated stoppage time to be around 2 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 4 - 0. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 52 percent possession in this half was spot on!
Lunacane's top performer was clearly
Yoran van den Berk. Good thing
Bruno Bosso isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. Grilled's best player was
Chan Ze Han. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by
Manuel Vadalà today.
