The teams had chosen different formations for the match. Home team FG Alemannia 14 went for 5-4-1 while Grilled Birds has decided to play a 2-5-3 lineup. Grilled tried to focus their attacks down the middle, taking advantage of their divine (+3) level with that tactic. Grilled had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially 6 minutes in when
Vikram Mudaliar came up alone against
John Duong who managed a block. Alemannia had a great opportunity to score following a counterattack after 7 minutes, but
Lee Rong Ting's shot from the left sailed high over the bar.
John Duong looked great 9 minutes into the match after stopping a shot from the middle of the penalty area from the visitors'
Prokop Mottl. Alemannia's
Lee Rong Ting was shown a yellow card after 12 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
Grilled took the lead 25 minutes into the game, making the score 0 - 1 after some elegant movement down the middle.
Prokop Mottl was the scorer. It was obvious that team Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings. The visitors'
Jos Luiz Velho took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 26 minutes into the match. 0 - 2 for Grilled. After 34 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
Bilal Mohammad Harun who increased Grilled's lead to 0 - 3. 44 minutes into the game, Alemannia wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Lee Tze Choon gave
Jai Singhania a quick hug as he left the field.
Abhinav Swami would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise.
Fang Guang Chang entered the game for Alemannia as the match clock showed 44 minutes. 0 - 3 was the halftime score. Possession in this half belonged to Grilled, who controlled the ball 80 percent of the time.
With 61 minutes played,
Chan Ze Han nearly put the visitors another one up as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot passed just over the bar. After 70 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving
Neeraj Muthyala off the field.
Chu Xin Lee took his place. The home crowd cheered when, after 74 minutes,
Jos Luiz Velho's charge up the middle resulted in the keeper making one of his best saves of the day.
Jos Luiz Velho of Grilled received a yellow card after 76 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. Alemannia were pushed back, and had many dangerous counterattacks. An impressive one came 80 minutes into the match, but
Lee Rong Ting narrowly missed the free kick attempt that was awarded as a result of a foul. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 1 minute beyond the regular 90 minutes. Grilled's
Chan Ze Han showed his experience, anticipating the outcome of the opponent's defensive clearance and positioning himself perfectly to volley in an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box. 0 - 4.
Lee Rong Ting looked to be heading one way when he unexpectedly passed the ball to
Jai Singhania. The move caught everyone off-guard, including his teammate, who panicked and kicked the ball out of play by accident.
Gilbert Webb came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle. He tried to lift the ball over
John Duong but overcooked it and hit the bar instead. The match ends 0 - 4. Grilled had most of the ball, with 81 percent of possession.
Most important Alemannia player was
Lee Rong Ting.
Fang Guang Chang turned in a dismal performance, however. Grilled's best player was
Chan Ze Han.
Bernie Egan on the other hand, had a terrible day.
