The teams had chosen different formations for the match. Home team Cottbus Red Lions went for 3-5-2 while Grilled Birds has decided to play a 2-5-3 lineup. This was a good period for the visitors, with several opportunities to take the lead, particularly when Vikram Mudaliar slipped through the defence on the right to come up alone against Moussa Sall, but the home side's keeper showed his lightning reflexes. It was showtime for artist Chan Ze Han who showed off his technical mastery when he rounded Reinold Habermayer and finished with a goal to make the score 0 - 1. Grilled's Vikram Mudaliar got himself booked for a foul. After 22 minutes, Grilled's 悠太 (Yuta) 中北 (Nakakita) burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 2. 24 minutes into the game Cottbus broke through on the left wing and Anthony Troude managed to reduce the lead to 1 - 2. After 30 minutes, Avtandil Prastashvili made a dash down the middle past the away team's defenders to score the goal that made it 2 - 2. The home crowd was not impressed by the fancy moves of Grilled's Vikram Mudaliar after 35 minutes. He converted a pass from the left for a goal, resulting in the visitors taking the 2 - 3 lead. Halftime score was 2 - 3. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 54 percent of possession.

46 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Florus Romijn gave Chu Xin Lee a quick hug as he left the field. After 69 minutes, Grilled were awarded a free kick. Rather than shooting straight at goal, the taker went for an indirect variant which seemed to take his team mates a bit by surprise. Vikram Mudaliar did attempt a finish, but from an awkward position, sending the ball into the away fans. After the ball was lifted in from the left, Cyril Künzler was on his own in the home side's penalty area and should have scored after 70 minutes, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration. With 74 minutes played, Chan Ze Han nearly put the visitors another one up as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot passed just over the bar. Stipe Dolić was just a finger's breadth away from an equaliser for Cottbus with a strike from the left, but Massoud Dob managed to ward the shot off for a corner. With 80 minutes gone, Grilled's Vikram Mudaliar had to leave the pitch after talking back to the referee and receiving his second booking. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 2 minutes beyond the regular 90 minutes. The match ends 2 - 3. Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 55 percent.

Avtandil Prastashvili performed admirably for Cottbus. However, Sverre Røst made a disastrous appearance. Grilled's best player was Chan Ze Han. On the other hand, Gilbert Webb's play was disheartening.
