Grilled 2 - 4 Pohodáři
The rain was pouring down at the stadium today. The pitch was a disaster, due to all the rain. This spelled problems for the more sophisticated players, who usually could rely on speed or technique. For those relying on grit and strength, it actually meant an edge. The following players took the field:
Dob -
Webb,
中北 (Nakakita) -
Künzler,
Xin Seng,
Mohammad Harun,
Muthyala,
Romijn -
Mudaliar,
Ze Han,
Parvathaneni.
The following players had been chosen:
Švestka -
Anemone,
Fila,
Blanc,
Garagnani,
Poklop -
Costa,
Himl,
Sanderink -
Rabillard,
Ratuszna.
Grilled Birds fielded a 2-5-3 lineup. For Pohodáři jsou zpět, the formation of choice was 5-3-2. Grilled clearly preferred using their divine (+4) ability to attack in the middle. Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Pohodáři, taking advantage of their divine (+2) level with that tactic. Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to
Florus Romijn, but the Grilled player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 1 - 0! The visitors'
Tadeusz Ratuszna was alert after a cross coming in from the left, levelling the score at 1 - 1 after 22 minutes. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, as they moved the ball from the wings to the middle with startling regularity. Making his way up the middle 28 minutes into the match,
Cyril Künzler almost managed to squeeze a goal past the visitors' keeper, but the alert
Eduard Švestka blocked it to keep the score level. With 29 minutes gone, a long pass from the defence of Pohodáři resulted in a counterattack that set
Jean-Charles Rabillard free through the middle, but the keeper made a spectacular diving save. After 36 minutes, Grilled were awarded a free kick. Rather than shooting straight at goal, the taker went for an indirect variant which seemed to take his team mates a bit by surprise.
Bilal Mohammad Harun did attempt a finish, but from an awkward position, sending the ball into the away fans. Pohodáři were great at switching from defence to attack, and after 37 minutes,
Daniele Anemone swept through the middle on a counterattack, making the score 1 - 2. 1 - 2 was the score after the first half. Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 65 percent.
Grilled put pressure on the visitors' central defence 69 minutes into the game, but
Vikram Mudaliar couldn't find an opening.
Jan Poklop was in the clear after breaking the offside trap following a Pohodáři counterattack from the left after 71 minutes. His neat finish made the score 1 - 3. The visitors added to their lead 76 minutes into the game, after a sensational penalty kick by Pohodáři's
Elísio Costa slid just past the home keeper. 1 - 4. It was obvious that team Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings. Grilled refused to be intimidated and, breaking through the middle,
Neeraj Muthyala managed to slip the ball home for 2 - 4. 80 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution.
Bernie Egan came on for
Neeraj Muthyala. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 1 minute. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! After 90 minutes, Pohodáři began to show their lack of experience and they threatened to wilt under the heavy pressure from their opposition. The match ends 2 - 4. Possession in this half belonged to Grilled, who controlled the ball 64 percent of the time.
Grilled's best player was
Chan Ze Han.
Cyril Künzler turned in a dismal performance, however. Most important Pohodáři player was
Vojtěch Himl. On the other hand,
Laurent Blanc's play was disheartening.
