Siegmund 2 - 3 Grilled

ouds darkened the skies at Siegmund United Arena as 44739 spectators turned up for the match. Jean-Benoît Caes was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Angelo Lammertyn and Dimitar Mitrushev. Siegmund had chosen a strategic 5-3-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: bin Hasyim - Ze Su, Gaitán, 静南 (Jingnan), Ponce, Amengual - Heersema, Schlager, Abernathy - Simons, Crespin.

A 2-5-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Grilled. Starters: Stacey - 俊桂 (Jungui), Madaini - bin Jantan, 尊文 (Zunwen) , Shun An, Djekshenkulov, 长春 (Changchun) - bin Mohd Kassim, Ying Lee, 勇航 (Yonghang).

Siegmund clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could. Grilled tried to focus their attacks down the middle. 2 minutes into the game, Mohd Safri bin Mohd Kassim had a great chance to put his team ahead, but his kick from the left went wide. 4 minutes into the game, 田 (Tian) 勇航 (Yonghang) had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came Leong Wan Kang. This was a good period for the visitors, with several opportunities to take the lead, particularly when Chow Ying Lee slipped through the defence on the right to come up alone against Mohd Azmani bin Hasyim, but the home side's keeper showed his lightning reflexes. Some good play on the left wing created an opportunity for the visitors 34 minutes into the match, and 林 (Lin) 俊桂 (Jungui) wasn't about to let it go by. He got past the defenders and fired a shot that the keeper just missed. 0 - 1 for the visitors. After a savage shot that could only be parried by the keeper, Chow Ying Lee demonstrated his experience by being in just the right place to slot home the rebound. His goal for Grilled 37 minutes into the match made the score 0 - 2. At this point, it was obvious that the players of Grilled lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented. Siegmund played a good counterattacking move down the left 43 minutes into the match, with Leo Simons finishing well for 1 - 2. Halftime score was 1 - 2. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Grilled, with 65 percent of the ball.

Good work by the Siegmund defensive line after 59 minutes produced a good counterattack chance, which cut elegantly down the middle of the pitch and found Leo Simons alone in front of the goal, but his shot whistled just wide. Leo Simons made a superb strike after 61 minutes with a shot straight in front of the goal after a long ball through the middle, but one of the visitors' defenders got a foot in at the last second and warded it off for a corner. A drive down the left side allowed Mohd Safri bin Mohd Kassim to get in close and score another goal for Grilled after 66 minutes, taking the score to 1 - 3. Siegmund's Glen Abernathy refused to leave the field after injuring his achilles tendon after 71 minutes. A throw-in deep in the opponent's half found 丁 (Ding) 静南 (Jingnan), who produced a brilliant first touch to send it flying beyond the keeper into the net. This reduced the away team's lead to 2 - 3. Grilled had most of the ball, with 66 percent of possession.

Mohd Azmani bin Hasyim performed admirably for Siegmund. However, Laurent Crespin made a disastrous appearance. The most dominating Grilled player was without a doubt Chow Ying Lee. On the other hand, Leong Wan Kang's play was disheartening. The match ends 2 - 3.
