e crowd of 44972 turning up at Sentosa Soccer Club Arena today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain.
Ferhat Nazım was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Mario Fajardo and
Alejandro Vizcaíno. A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Sentosa. Lineup: Jun Jian - Guang Chang, Beng Rong, Chong - Da Tse, Dhekne, Chang, bin Nik Cob, Shi Puay - 城洲 (Chengzhou) , Khairul Ridhwan.
Grilled tactics involved an interesting 2-5-3 combination. Starters: Seng - Awyong, Madaini - Fonseca, bin Jantan, 福泉 (Fuquan) , Djekshenkulov, Bellamoli - bin Mohd Kassim, Wan Kang, Ying Lee.
Sentosa used their skill at pressing to cut off the attack angles of their opponents all over the field. Grilled clearly preferred using their ability to attack in the middle. The visiting
Leong Wan Kang was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 29 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 0 - 1 was the score. Grilled had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks.
Chow Ying Lee received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 39 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 2. The Grilled fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. After 40 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave
Alex Fonseca a chance to increase the lead for Grilled, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 3. The players of Grilled now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. With 41 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed
Chow Ying Lee of Grilled to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 0 - 4. 0 - 4 was the halftime score. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Grilled, with 64 percent of the ball.
Seytek Djekshenkulov left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 46 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead.
Teo Yong Yau was the replacement.
Chow Ying Lee wanted to play on, but the Grilled coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 46 minutes into the game by
Winston Chan. The home crowd were delighted when
Jack Chang scored with a header after an attack from the right, making the score 1 to 4. But did he use his hand? That'll be one for the pundits to talk about after the game, that's for sure! After 58 minutes, Grilled's
Winston Chan burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 1 - 5.
Raja Ridha Khairul Ridhwan, who often relies on his speed, had a rotten day on the drenched grass. At 73 minutes into the game, Sentosa's
Raja Ridha Khairul Ridhwan deftly knocked the ball home after an impressive run down the left, reducing the visitors' lead to 2 - 5. The game was characterised by rough play and many physical challenges on the wet field, but
Jack Chang showed great heart and had a good game. At this time in the match, Sentosa were using their skill at pressing to successfully stifle the game. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 56 percent of possession.
Most important Sentosa player was
Low Da Tse.
Phua Jun Jian was a disappointment, however.
Mohd Safri bin Mohd Kassim performed admirably for Grilled.
Colby Awyong turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 2 - 5.
