Grilled 4 - 1 CCP
821 punters turned up at The Cooking Pot, and despite threatening clouds on the horizon, no rain came.
Rene Sandholm was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Tomas Dahlerberg and
Filiberto Inga. Grilled had chosen a strategic 2-5-3 formation. The following players had been chosen: Stacey - bin Jantan, Madaini - Iten, Fonseca, 尊文 (Zunwen) , 长春 (Changchun), Djekshenkulov - bin Mohd Kassim, 勇航 (Yonghang) , Ying Lee.
CCP tactics involved an interesting 4-3-3 combination. Starters: Diaconescu - Rambli, Gneo, bin Saidi, Loong Dong - Aik Leng, Chang De, Boon Min - Noriega, Sans, Wee Kiong.
Grilled tried to focus their attacks down the middle. Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for CCP. 8 minutes had elapsed when a great chance for Grilled to take the lead after a good cross from the right found
Mohd Safri bin Mohd Kassim alone with the keeper, but he chipped it to the wrong side of the post.
Mohd Safri bin Mohd Kassim of Grilled seemed to be floating in the air as he elegantly headed in to make the score 1 - 0 after a corner kick that was nicely executed by
Paolo Iten. Coming from the right,
Mohd Safri bin Mohd Kassim almost managed to score another goal for Grilled, but his header was tipped over the bar by the visitors' keeper. With 29 minutes played, the visitors almost levelled the score.
Iskandar Zulkernain bin Saidi shot a hard curved free kick, striking the post. A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Grilled to 2 - 0 as
Paolo Iten finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle. By now, the players in Grilled felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
田 (Tian) 勇航 (Yonghang) should probably have put his team up another goal after 33 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by
Ioan Diaconescu kept the visitors in the game. After 40 minutes, the defensive line of CCP created a counterattack through the middle that gave
Mario Gneo a good look at the goal, but his shot glanced harmlessly off the crossbar. The goal to make it 2 - 1 was scored by
Wong Chang De after 44 minutes, following an opportunistic counterattack down the middle by CCP. After 44 minutes Grilled's
卢 (lu) 尊文 (Zunwen) limped slightly after a late challenge, but he was able to continue. Halftime score was 2 - 1. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Grilled, with 75 percent of the ball.
While defending the Grilled lead,
Alex Fonseca got a new role. 46 minutes in the game, his coach ordered him to change positions with
Abdul bin Jantan. Things were deteriorating for the away team as Grilled scored another to make it 3 - 1 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for
Chow Ying Lee after 73 minutes. Always a threat,
Chow Ying Lee tore past his marker and placed the ball right at the feet of the waiting
Mohd Safri bin Mohd Kassim who should have easily scored for Grilled, but the ball went wide. Grilled increased the lead as
Chow Ying Lee struck to make the score 4 - 1 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for team Grilled, and they were successfully passing the ball from the wing into the middle to get them on. Grilled's
田 (Tian) 勇航 (Yonghang) saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 84 minutes. CCP needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 85 minutes
Ioan Diaconescu made way for
Bernie Vollaers. After 85 minutes, CCP switched
Ng Wee Kiong with
Yap Ho Guang, hoping for a quick impact on the pitch.
Yap Ho Guang became the new CCP captain. The bench was restless, and with 88 minutes passed CCP's coach gave
János Daday the opportunity the player had been hoping for.
Deng Aik Leng reluctantly left the field. Content with how the game was proceeding, the Grilled coach let
Mayur Gudivada replace
Abdul bin Jantan after 89 minutes. Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 74 percent.
Grilled's top performer was clearly
Mohd Safri bin Mohd Kassim.
Alex Fonseca turned in a dismal performance, however.
Quirze Sans performed admirably for CCP.
János Daday on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 4 - 1.
