Grilled 3 - 1 Tampines

rk skies made the crowd of 44736 at The Cooking Pot a little nervous, but the rain held off. Paco González Rodriguez was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Fabrizio Vecchiato and Jonathan Clark. A 2-5-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Grilled. The following players had been chosen: Stacey - Fonseca, Madaini - Shaahee, bin Jantan, 尊文 (Zunwen) , 长春 (Changchun), Djekshenkulov - bin Mohd Kassim, 勇航 (Yonghang) , Ying Lee.

Tampines decided to use a 3-4-3 set up. Lineup: 云宇 (Yunyu) - Puay Eng, Jin Beng, Jian De - bin Awang, Lai Ming, Soon Kit, Than Le - bin Abd Wahab, Chi How, Chuan Jian.

Grilled used their ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. Given a free kick in a difficult position after 26 minutes, Grilled tried a variation that they had practised in training. The kick was sent into the area just in front of the keeper. However, the defence were on their toes and allowed no space for a finish. After 41 minutes Tampines's Abdul bin Abd Wahab limped slightly after a late challenge, but he was able to continue. Grilled broke through on the left 43 minutes into the game, with Mohd Safri bin Mohd Kassim firing in from an acute angle to give the home side a 1 - 0 lead. The referee showed Tampines's Tay Puay Eng the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. One of many good crosses from Wang Than Le on the wing was received and skillfully taken care of by Abdul bin Abd Wahab, who scored for Tampines. 1 - 1 Slack defending gave Grilled a chance to take the lead with 44 minutes played, but 卢 (lu) 尊文 (Zunwen) 's cross from the left flank was fumbled in front of the goal and easily dealt with by the opposition. The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to Abdul bin Jantan, but the Grilled player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 2 - 1! As 卢 (lu) 尊文 (Zunwen) had, completely unprovoked, swept the legs out from under an opponent in front of a linesman, the referee gave the Grilled player a red card without batting an eyelid. 2 - 1 was the halftime score. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 63 percent of possession.

The home side's 田 (Tian) 勇航 (Yonghang) came close to extending the lead 53 minutes into the game. His shot came in from the right hand side but 陆 (Lu) 云宇 (Yunyu) managed to save it with an unbelievable reaction stop. Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. Cheers filled the stadium as Mohd Safri bin Mohd Kassim broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 3 - 1 to Grilled. By now, the players in Grilled felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward. Qassem Madaini had a fantastic opportunity to put Grilled up another goal 82 minutes into the match, but he fired just over the crossbar. After 86 minutes, Grilled were awarded a free kick. Rather than shooting straight at goal, the taker went for an indirect variant which seemed to take his team mates a bit by surprise. 田 (Tian) 勇航 (Yonghang) did attempt a finish, but from an awkward position, sending the ball into the away fans. Tampines kept trying to force their way through on the right side and Abdul bin Abd Wahab got his chance after 87 minutes, but the home side's defence held their position and stopped the attack. Qassem Madaini almost put Grilled ahead another goal when he curled a free kick over the defensive wall and almost into the net, but the visitors' keeper got there just in time to knock it wide. Alex Fonseca left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 89 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead. 林 (Lin) 俊桂 (Jungui) was the replacement. 89 minutes into the game, Tampines seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a passable level of organisation. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Grilled, with 66 percent of the ball.

Grilled's best player was Mohd Safri bin Mohd Kassim. 林 (Lin) 俊桂 (Jungui) was a disappointment, however. 陆 (Lu) 云宇 (Yunyu) performed admirably for Tampines. On the other hand, Wang Than Le's play was disheartening. The match ends 3 - 1.
