CCP 3 - 1 Grilled
e crowd of 49526 turning up at See Mee Lan Park today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain.
Fernando Vasco da Gama was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Federico Contini and
Adriano Eiserling. CCP started off with a 2-5-3 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Diaconescu - bin Saidi, Rambli - bin Abu Bakar, bin Mamud, Chang De, Yew Yeng, Yau Meng - Noriega, Sans, Wee Kiong.
Grilled had chosen a strategic 2-5-3 formation. Starters: Stacey - Ross, Madaini - Fonseca, bin Jantan, 尊文 (Zunwen) , 长春 (Changchun), Djekshenkulov - bin Mohd Kassim, 勇航 (Yonghang) , Ying Lee.
CCP used their ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings.
Quirze Sans could have put CCP into the lead after 5 minutes, but the free kick went just wide. The boggy pitch disrupted the game, especially for technical players like
Walter Ross. CCP were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally.
Ng Wee Kiong caused the crowd to go mental with his goal up the middle after 16 minutes. This gave CCP the 1 - 0 lead. It was a bad day for the usually speedy
Lai Yau Meng. The mud seemed to slow him down. 29 minutes into the game,
Ng Wee Kiong had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came
Yap Ho Guang.
Yap Ho Guang was the new captain of CCP - handed the armband by the departing player. 31 minutes into the match the visitors levelled the score at 1 - 1 as
卢 (lu) 尊文 (Zunwen) struck home from a rebound off the crossbar, following a shot from the right. 1 - 1 was the halftime score. CCP claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 57 percent.
CCP had a chance to take the lead on
Manfredo Noriega's dazzling drive up the left, but the opportunity fizzled away as his shot went just over the bar after 52 minutes. The visitors were very close to gaining the lead with a marvellous free kick after 53 minutes, but
Ioan Diaconescu made a beautiful one-handed save. 54 minutes into the match, Grilled nearly took the lead, as
Abdul bin Jantan broke through on the right.
Ioan Diaconescu made the save, however. 70 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Walter Ross gave
林 (Lin) 俊桂 (Jungui) a quick hug as he left the field. After 70 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving
Alex Fonseca off the field.
Paolo Iten took his place. The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to
Manfredo Noriega, but the CCP player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 2 - 1! CCP solidified their lead at the 74 minute mark, as
Zulharisan bin Mamud dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 3 - 1. The CCP players could smell victory in the air.
Ioan Diaconescu wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for
Bernie Vollaers after 85 minutes.
Iskandar Zulkernain bin Saidi left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 85 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead.
Yap Loong Dong was the replacement. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by CCP, with 58 percent of the ball.
CCP's best player was
Quirze Sans. However,
Bernie Vollaers made a disastrous appearance.
Mohd Safri bin Mohd Kassim performed admirably for Grilled.
Paolo Iten was a disappointment, however. The match ends 3 - 1.
