The_Monoliths 3 - 1 Grilled

e to an all-day shower, 4300 paying spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog at Monolith of the victories. Koenraad van Polanen was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Phil Rivergate and Peter Richardsson. The_Monoliths had chosen a strategic 5-3-2 formation. Lineup: Obst - Eschle, Seiler, Liembd, Leiber, von Medem - Alves, Jevoli, Greenberg - Giraud, Bernhauer.

Grilled decided to use a 2-5-3 set up. The following players had been chosen: Noubaryan - Bakhtiar, Awyong - Gudivada, Yong Yau, Chan, Adabala, Wee Li - Azhari, Da Teck, 恒才 (Hengcai).

With 11 minutes played Walo 'Salty' Seiler almost gave the home side the lead with an unexpected free kick set up, but the visitors' Hovaness Noubaryan was onto it, grabbing the would be breakthrough ball. With 24 minutes played, the home side managed to get a 1 - 0 lead as Gregor 'Lampo' Liembd flipped the ball in after a cross from the right. The boggy pitch disrupted the game, especially for technical players like Gregor 'Lampo' Liembd. A scuffle developed as players from both sides clashed following a tussle in the centre of the field 30 minutes into the match. After regaining order and consulting his linesman, the referee called The_Monoliths's Ludovic 'Luce' Alves to one side and produced a red card for the player. After 31 minutes, Walo 'Salty' Seiler sent the corner kick right to Hansjürg 'Jorgi' Leiber who headed it sharply past the keeper. 2 - 0! The guests got an opportunity to reduce after 34 minutes and Mayur Gudivada took it from the penalty spot, scoring easily for 2 - 1. Enrico Bernhauer unleashed a swerving effort from the right that the visitors' keeper did well to tip wide. It was 2 - 1 at the break. The forty-five minutes were dominated by The_Monoliths, with an impressive 59 percent possession of the ball.

The visitors almost came back with an equaliser 51 minutes into the match after a good combination down the middle, but when Teo Yong Yau tried to finish the attack, he couldn't deliver the shot hard enough to seriously challenge the keeper. The_Monoliths's Dani 'Speedy' Greenberg was delighted to score the 3 - 1 goal after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper and into the net, following some good attacking movement on the right wing after 62 minutes. With 66 minutes played, the Grilled coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around. Mohd Safri bin Mohd Kassim came on, Wardi Azhari had to leave the fray. After 70 minutes, The_Monoliths were awarded a free kick. Rather than shooting straight at goal, the taker went for an indirect variant which seemed to take his team mates a bit by surprise. Gregor 'Lampo' Liembd did attempt a finish, but from an awkward position, sending the ball into the away fans. 76 minutes into the game, The_Monoliths seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a passable level of organisation. After 88 minutes, Grilled switched Colby Awyong with Walter Ross, hoping for a quick impact on the pitch. The_Monoliths enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 57 percent of possession.

The_Monoliths's best player was Hansjürg 'Jorgi' Leiber. František Obst was a disappointment, however. Grilled's top performer was clearly Mohd Safri bin Mohd Kassim. Winston Chan on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 3 - 1.
