CCP 1 - 4 Grilled
e to an all-day shower, 67823 paying spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog at See Mee Lan Park.
Ainar Veetõusme was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Ranco Bult and
Kaappo Hyvärinen. CCP started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. Lineup: Diaconescu - bin Saidi, Gneo, Rambli - Aik Leng, bin Abu Bakar, Yau Meng, Yew Yeng, Boon Min - Noriega, Wee Kiong.
Grilled had chosen a strategic 2-5-3 formation. They fielded: Stacey - Fonseca, Madaini - Iten, bin Jantan, 尊文 (Zunwen) , 长春 (Changchun), Djekshenkulov - bin Mohd Kassim, 勇航 (Yonghang) , Ying Lee.
It was an obvious ambition of CCP to use their ability at attacking on the flanks. Grilled tried to focus their attacks down the middle. Despite having a free kick in a decent position 9 minutes in, CCP tried a variation that brought the ball through to the other end of the penalty area. However,
Mohd Ali bin Abu Bakar did not manage to connect with it, as his team mates had hoped, and the ball went out. The home crowd was not impressed by the fancy moves of Grilled's
田 (Tian) 勇航 (Yonghang) after 14 minutes. He converted a pass from the left for a goal, resulting in the visitors taking the 0 - 1 lead. With 24 minutes played, a phenomenal play on the left side freed
Alex Fonseca, of Grilled, to dash through and score another goal for the visitors. The score was then 0 - 2. The referee showed Grilled's
Mohd Safri bin Mohd Kassim the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. The CCP player who had to be helped off the pitch, was
Manfredo Noriega as he was unable to finish the game.
Yap Ho Guang came in to finish the match.
田 (Tian) 勇航 (Yonghang) had a hard time on the water infested pitch - his trademark technique was nowhere in sight this day. The visitors'
卢 (lu) 尊文 (Zunwen) took advantage of an error due to a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 40 minutes into the match. 0 - 3 for Grilled. By now, the players in Grilled felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
Iskandar Zulkernain bin Saidi didn't let the weather get him down and made some great moves on the pitch in spite of the rain. After 43 minutes, Grilled's
Paolo Iten burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 4. It was 0 - 4 at the break. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 55 percent of possession.
CCP needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 46 minutes
Mario Gneo made way for
Zulharisan bin Mamud. With 46 minutes played, the CCP coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around.
Wong Chang De came on,
Quah Boon Min had to leave the fray. The situation leading to CCP's penalty 48 minutes into the match was much debated after the match, but the competent
Iskandar Zulkernain bin Saidi didn't hesitate to make the score 1 - 4. After 53 minutes,
Mohd Ali bin Abu Bakar had a good opportunity to reduce the scoreline for CCP with a chance created through the middle, but wasn't cool enough. The ball went miles over the bar. The game was close to savage at times, and Grilled's
Mohd Safri bin Mohd Kassim received a second yellow card after 66 minutes, his ticket out of the game. Attacking on the wings was the pick of the day for CCP, and they were successfully passing the ball from the middle to the wings to get them on. With 69 minutes played,
Soon Yew Yeng was very close to reducing the score for CCP with a low drive from the left, but a defender stuck his foot out just in the nick of time, blocking the shot to a corner. The coach of Grilled was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 70 minutes,
Slavcho Tzonkov came on for
Alex Fonseca. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for team Grilled, and they were successfully passing the ball from the wing into the middle to get them on.
Chow Ying Lee came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle, but he lifted the ball over
Ioan Diaconescu and it was a little too high and hit the bar. CCP held the ball, with a clear 53 percent of possession.
CCP's top performer was clearly
Soon Yew Yeng.
Ioan Diaconescu on the other hand, had a terrible day. Most important Grilled player was
Chow Ying Lee.
Paolo Iten was a disappointment, however. The match ends 1 - 4.
