Gremio 5 - 1 Grilled
brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 2150 to Estádio do Mamba.
Justus Turschl was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Rob Hammarland and
Jean-Paul de Hoogh. Gremio started off with a 5-4-1 lineup. Lineup: Carvalho - Domingo, Tynystanov, Caffin, Matos, Aranzubia - Feio, Nabo, Oliveira, d'Ãvila - Higino.
Grilled had chosen a strategic 4-5-1 formation. The following players had been chosen: Bao-Tam - 辉洪 (Huihong) , Tuan-Mu, Seng-Huat, åºå³° (Tingfeng) - è¾¾è£ (Darong) , Mirchev, Chuan Heng, Puay Hock, Deme - bin Yaacob.
A foul after 16 minutes resulted in a free kick.
Sérgio Oliveira cannonballed it, giving the home team the lead 1 to 0. With 18 minutes played, Gremio put themselves up 2 - 0 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to
Argider Aranzubia, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home. Confident in their lead, Gremio decided to play a more defensive game at this point. The home side's
Fernando José Higino came close to extending the lead 26 minutes into the game. His shot came in from the right hand side but
Hang Bao-Tam managed to save it with an unbelievable reaction stop. Many in the crowd felt the referee was being too lenient when he only showed Grilled's
胡 (Hu) 辉洪 (Huihong) a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 32 minutes into the game.
Sérgio Oliveira increased Gremio's lead to 3 - 0 with a penalty spot cannonball. 3 - 0 was the halftime score. Gremio enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 67 percent of possession.
Grilled's right side looked dangerous after 50 minutes, as
Sándor Deme broke through.
João Carvalho continued to stifle them, however, as he made the save look easy. With 63 minutes played, seemingly due to lack of experience,
Pedro Domingo needlessly tripped an opponent just outside the penalty area, but the free kick that followed didn't succeed. Grilled managed to reduce to 3 - 1 as
Chow Puay Hock finished off a well-played combination from the left, carving through the defensive box.
Sándor Deme of Grilled received a yellow card after 69 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. Cheers filled the stadium as
Urmat Tynystanov broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the 4 - 1 goal for Gremio.
Sérgio Oliveira should probably have put his team up another goal after 80 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by
Hang Bao-Tam kept the visitors in the game. 81 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as
Jorge Nabo dashed through, knocking home 5 - 1 for Gremio. Grilled's
Lim Chuan Heng was shown a yellow card after 82 minutes for slicing down an opponent. There was concern in the stands when, at the 83 minute mark, Gremio's
Urmat Tynystanov hit the ground hard, but he refused the attention of the trainer and rejoined his teammates on the pitch. Gremio claimed to be the more dominant force in the game, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 68 percent.
Gremio's top performer was clearly
Fernando José Higino.
João Carvalho on the other hand, had a terrible day.
Mohd Firdaus bin Yaacob performed admirably for Grilled.
Hang Bao-Tam was a disappointment, however. The match ends 5 - 1.
