Mariste 5 - 3 Grilled
irly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 5641 to Santiago de Mariste.
Stefan Alexandersson was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Ferry Toonder and
Cosimo Del Sante. Mariste tactics involved an interesting 3-4-3 combination. Lineup: Goodman - de Ana, Liebrecht, Rácz - Diarra, Debat, Folha, Nasser - León, Campos, Fazilleau.
Grilled started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. Starters: Bao-Tam - bin Che Lah, Seng-Huat, Tuan-Mu - Chuan Jing, Swee Pheng, Jie Siong, Abd Hamid, Ødegaard - bin Yaacob, Hjortlind.
Allan Ødegaard's lightning pace was too much for
Frank Liebrecht who could only look on as the Grilled player blasted one home. 0 - 1. A defender managed to keep the ball from crossing the goal-line after a curling shot coming in from the right from
Ulf Hjortlind after 14 minutes, and prevented Grilled from going up another goal. Mariste's
Tony León scored the 1 - 1 goal after 27 minutes by shooting accurately and hard from a long distance, leaving the opponent keeper no other option than to pick the ball out of the net. Grilled had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially 36 minutes in when
Ulf Hjortlind came up alone against
Greg Goodman who managed a block.
Ulf Hjortlind came close to putting the visiting team one up 40 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but
Greg Goodman managed to tip the ball to a corner. 43 minutes into the match and the home team took a 2 - 1 lead after breaking through on the left. Scorer for Mariste was
Gabriel Campos. Grilled tied it all up, 44 minutes in, after a spectacular goal by
Ulf Hjortlind, who miraculously broke through the home side's central defence, making it 2 - 2. Halftime score was 2 - 2. Grilled held the ball, with a clear 56 percent of possession.
Mariste took the lead after 55 minutes, as a result of
Tony León's awkward, but ultimately successful, shot from the right. 3 - 2. 56 minutes into the match, Grilled's
Allan Ødegaard demonstrated his famed speed as he raced past his marker and passed the ball to
Ulf Hjortlind who chipped it in for 3 - 3. They were singing the praises of
Gabriel Campos 59 minutes into the match after his speculative chip from just outside the centre part of the opponent's penalty area found its way over the visitors keeper to make the score 4 - 3 for Mariste. Grilled had to manage with a reduced squad after 66 minutes, as
Lim Chuan Jing got sent off for a needless foul away from the game's action. Unfortunately for Mariste,
Jean-Hugues Fazilleau was injured when the game became more physical, and he had to leave the field.
Rusdi bin Yahya replaced him. Mariste's
Vítor Folha was delighted to score the 5 - 3 goal after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper and into the net, following some good attacking movement on the right wing after 79 minutes. This half belonged to Mariste, who controlled the ball 68 percent of the time.
Mariste's top performer was clearly
Rusdi bin Yahya. However,
Gabriel Campos made a disastrous appearance. Grilled's top performer was clearly
Lee Jie Siong.
Lan Tuan-Mu was a disappointment, however. The match ends 5 - 3.
