Sacsayhuamán 3 - 3 Grilled
It was an exceptionally sunny day for the crowd that came out to the stadium today. For some players the sunny weather was bad news. It made Powerful and Quick players a bit sluggish. For Technical players, it was instead an advantage, allowing them to shine on the pitch. The following players had been selected:
da Cruz -
Lozada,
Machado,
Alanampa,
Damiani,
Paredes -
Lomeland,
Quintún,
Sawyer -
Alesworth,
Sechi-Johnson.
Lineup:
Germanakos -
Himadas,
其材 (Qicai) -
Reddy,
Thach,
An Keng,
Teck Fu,
Trindade -
Kwang Tse,
Chitre,
Khairul.
Deportivo Sacsayhuamán started the game in a 5-3-2 formation, whereas Grilled Birds lined up in a 2-5-3. Using their divine (+7) (27) counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for Sacsayhuamán today. Grilled had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially 8 minutes in when
Lim An Keng found himself alone with
André Manuel da Cruz who managed a block. Sacsayhuamán showed their counter-attacking skill 9 minutes into the match by breaking through the middle, with
Kerry Sawyer scoring an easy goal for 1 - 0. The referee showed Grilled's
Brian 'Was Born' Reddy the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. A goal seemed certain after 18 minutes when
Gandhik Chitre came down the left wing, but
André Manuel da Cruz just managed to make a save and preserve the home team's lead. Sacsayhuamán caught their opponents out with a clever counter-attack down the right wing 19 minutes into the game.
Fausto Damiani was there to finish off the move - 2 - 0! Grilled managed to reduce their deficit as
Mohd Marzuki Khairul finished off a well-played combination from the left, easily carving through the home team's defense after 23 minutes.
André Manuel da Cruz's name was chanted throughout the stadium after he made a fantastic save to deny
Chia Kwang Tse's equally fantastic shot after a break on the left 26 minutes into the game. With 34 minutes played, the visitors almost leveled the score.
Raúl Himadas shot a hard curved free kick, but it struck the post. The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 1. Grilled did a good job holding on to the ball, with 63 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.
Raúl Himadas could have tied the game after 60 minutes, if his free kick had gone just a few inches to the left. Grilled leveled the score after 63 minutes to make it 2 - 2, as
Chad Thach struck home after a fine midfield combination through the middle left him completely unmarked. After 73 minutes, the visitors nearly went up a goal, but
Raúl Himadas's free kick hit the crossbar. Grilled took the lead after 74 minutes making the score 2 - 3. The keeper had no chance on
Hwang Teck Fu's fine volley fromleft of the net after a cross from the right. With the clock showing 80 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board.
Lim An Keng looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for
Aw Keng Chuan, though he would have liked to continue. 80 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution.
Damian Hutter came on for
Raúl Himadas. As
Raúl Himadas left the field, the coach signaled to
Aw Keng Chuan to start taking the set pieces that occurred. After 80 minutes,
Kerry Sawyer rushed down the middle past the away team's defenders to score the 3 - 3 goal. After more pushing and shoving than a pack of helicopter moms trying to get the last appointment for their snowflakes to see the Easter Bunny, Sacsayhuamán's
Anacleto Quintún finally got himself booked for a foul. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 2 beyond the regular 90 minutes. With 90 minutes gone,
Lasse Alanampa suddenly found himself completely free on the right wing when a counter-attack by Sacsayhuamán caught their opponents by surprise. Only a great save by the opposing keeper prevented him from scoring. The match ends 3 - 3. Looks like our neighborhood Nostradamus was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 63 percent possession in this half was spot on!
Sacsayhuamán's best player was
David Alesworth. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because
José Luis Machado seemed to stumble all over the pitch. Most important Grilled player was
Chia Kwang Tse. I can't remember
Damian Hutter ever having a worse night than he just had.
