Grilled 2 - 5 VLC
The fans at the stadium today were roasting in the hot sun. The weather was sunny, which meant perfect conditions for technical players in both teams. However, it was also quite warm, which meant quick or physically strong players were drained faster and couldn't play their best game. They fielded:
Germanakos -
Himadas,
其材 (Qicai) -
Reddy,
Thach,
Keng Chuan,
Teck Fu,
Trindade -
Kwang Tse,
An Keng,
Khairul.
Lineup:
Durán -
Torres,
Bavaud -
Ujheľský,
Uhorčák,
Balentien,
Beauval,
Meredyk -
Fodor,
Junnila,
Thompson.
Both teams came out with a similar approach to the match, having chosen to start with a 2-5-3 formation. Grilled went for a narrow approach, using their divine (+7) (27) ability to focus their attacks down the middle.
Paulino Trindade made one of his many fine passes from the wing into the middle with 23 minutes played.
Lim An Keng went to the air and hit the ball firmly with his forehead for Grilled. 1 - 0. With clinical precision, the cross from winger
Czesław Meredyk found its way to
László Fodor's head, and a screaming header gave VLC a goal after 28 minutes played. The scoreboard read 1 - 1. VLC's
László Fodor could have put the guests one up 30 minutes in after chasing a through ball from the right, but
Dimitris Germanakos was as quick as a snake, grabbing the ball from under his nose. Some quick footwork on the left side of the field 31 minutes into the match left VLC's
Antto Junnila completely free to score. 1 - 2 for the visitors. Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. Grilled put pressure on the visitors' central defense with 34 minutes played, but
Chad Thach couldn't find an opening. The crowd roared in delight as
Aw Keng Chuan finished off a spectacular series of plays up the middle to even the score for Grilled after 39 minutes. 2 - 2. VLC took the lead 41 minutes into the game, making the score 2 - 3 after some elegant movement down the middle.
Czesław Meredyk was the scorer. The referee showed VLC's
Sean Thompson the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. 43 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 2 - 4 as
Antto Junnila finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular bicycle kick. 2 - 4 was the halftime score. Now to our celebrity commentator for a hot take. Over to you, Snoop! After 52 minutes,
Chia Kwang Tse of Grilled had a good opportunity to reduce the away team's lead with a chance created through the middle, but he scuffed the ball harmlessly past the post. The home side worked hard to get through the middle and as a result, had a good chance of getting one back as
Hwang Teck Fu tried lifting the ball over keeper
Erwin Durán. Unfortunately, the ball went just over the bar.
Paulino Trindade challenged the visitors' central defense eagerly, producing a good chance 60 minutes into the game as he raced for a through ball. But, like so many times before, the guests' defensive positioning was just too good. VLC were able to mount several counter-attacks, such as the impressive one 61 minutes in, but
Jonathan Beauval lofted a free kick over the crossbar. After 70 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving
Mohd Marzuki Khairul off.
Gandhik Chitre took his place. With the clock showing 85 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board.
Raúl Himadas looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for
Damian Hutter, though he would have liked to continue. With
Raúl Himadas no longer on the field,
Aw Keng Chuan was the new set pieces taker. 89 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution.
Mohsen El Khateeb came on for
Paulino Trindade. As the match nears its end, the referee deemed it appropriate to add 2 minutes as stoppage time. After 89 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defense allowed
László Fodor to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 2 - 5. The match ends 2 - 5. Looks like our neighborhood Nostradamus was right again - his prediction that VLC would have 55 percent possession in this half was spot on!
The most outstanding Grilled player was without a doubt
Gandhik Chitre. Good thing
Mohsen El Khateeb isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. Most important VLC player was
Arwin Balentien. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because
Josef Bavaud seemed to stumble all over the pitch.
