Grilled 4 - 1 Herculoids
Clouds darkened the skies at the stadium today. They fielded:
Germanakos -
Himadas,
其材 (Qicai) -
Reddy,
Thach,
Keng Chuan,
Teck Fu,
Trindade -
Chitre,
An Keng,
Khairul.
The good news was that Herculoids showed up in time, ready to play. Unfortunately, the manager had stayed incommunicado the whole week and the team tactics had been decided by committee. Starters:
Monteverde -
Jozefov,
Stamenić,
Kleinlauth,
Guder -
Smoody,
Kirmani,
Pinto Lourenço,
Strzeszyński -
Berberi,
Nivamo.
Grilled Birds fielded a 2-5-3 lineup. For Yaak & Boing Sponsor Gloop & Gleep, the formation of choice was a 4-4-2. Grilled mostly ignored the flanks in favor of their divine (+6) (26) ability to attack in the middle. Many thought
Brian 'Was Born' Reddy ought to have been awarded a penalty 4 minutes into the match, as he went down trying to beat
Clemente Monteverde after an attack through the middle gave him the one-on-one opportunity.
Raúl Himadas still has a lot to learn. For instance, he should know not to make such feeble passes in front of
Juha Nivamo, who easily scored for Herculoids, making it 0 - 1. With 12 minutes on the clock, Grilled's
Hwang Teck Fu found an opening in the visitors' left side, but his shot was handled easily by the keeper. Given a free kick in a difficult position after 25 minutes, Grilled tried a variation that they had practiced in training. The kick was sent into the area just in front of the keeper, however, the defense were on their toes and allowed no space for a finish. With the scoreboard showing that 27 minutes had been played, Herculoids nearly put themselves up another goal after
Shayan Kirmani came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save. Grilled tried to even things up by sending a long ball through the middle, but the visitors' defense easily read the pass. Grilled's
Raúl Himadas had a hard, curved free kick 30 minutes in that would have paid off, had it gone just a little lower. It was 0 - 1 at the break. Looks like our neighborhood Nostradamus was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 66 percent possession in this half was spot on!
A foul after 54 minutes resulted in a free kick for Grilled.
Raúl Himadas took advantage as he curled the tying goal into the top corner, out of reach of the keeper’s outstretched arms. 1 - 1. With 57 minutes of the match played, a comedy of errors by the home side gave the visitors a chance at the lead, but
António Marinho Pinto Lourenço, after dashing down on goal from the left and finding himself with only the keeper to beat, sliced his shot horribly wide. Grilled were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up coming through the center. After 72 minutes cheers broke out as
Mohd Marzuki Khairul found his way through the guests' central defensive line, rattling the 2 - 1 goal in off the woodwork for Grilled. 75 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Gandhik Chitre gave
Chia Kwang Tse a quick hug as he left the field. With 78 minutes gone, Grilled's organization began to suffer due to a lack of experience. Cheers filled the stadium as
Aw Keng Chuan broke through the visitors' central defense to put away the 3 - 1 goal for Grilled. Grilled managed to extend their lead to 4 - 1 when
Hwang Teck Fu slid in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. After 89 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving
Aw Keng Chuan off.
Damian Hutter took his place. With the clock showing 89 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board.
Lim An Keng looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for
Chan Ze Han, though he would have liked to continue. It was announced by the fourth official that he estimated stoppage time to be around 1 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 4 - 1. Well, look at this! Cardi B is on the Enormotron in naught but giant sunglasses and a Beep Boop tank top. I've not seen anything like it before. Grilled's top performer was clearly
Chia Kwang Tse. Good thing
Chan Ze Han isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. Herculoids's best player was
Angelo Berberi. Speaking of stinking up the place,
Józef Strzeszyński sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham.
