newbies 3 - 4 Grilled

62244 punters turned up at the newbies ground, and despite threatening clouds on the horizon, no rain came. Bruce Katanga was the appointed referee with assistance provided by N'zueba Sylla and Luis Miguel 'Vasco' Mendía. All of Jurong was shut down for the day, as fans of both clubs came to the derby. newbies's starters: Eutiner - Gibson, Gardner - Keng Jia, Choon An, Chu Chao, Meng Heng, Ping Keong - Kim Tse, Syarif, Kong Su.

Grilled's lineup was: Germanakos - Himadas, 其材 (Qicai) - Reddy, Khairul, Keng Chuan, Kwang Tse, Trindade - Thach, Chitre, An Keng.

The teams both lined up their players in 2-5-3 formations. Grilled mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle, taking advantage of their divine (+7) (27) level with that tactic. Grilled had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks. A mistake by the home side's central defence after 10 minutes allowed Paulino Trindade to score for Grilled. The scoreboard now read 0 - 1. After 16 minutes, Lai Ping Keong made a dash down the middle past the away team's defenders to score the goal that made it 1 - 1. newbies's Ang Keng Jia tried to break through in the middle repeatedly, but couldn't get past the visitors' defenders. After 31 minutes, Au Kong Su came in from the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to make the score 2 - 1, giving newbies the lead. 32 minutes into the game Grilled's Aw Keng Chuan found a gap in the home side's central defence and scored with a fabulous shot, making it 2 - 2. Halftime score was 2 - 2. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 52 percent of possession.

The home side put themselves ahead 3 - 2 after 51 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from Chen Meng Heng, who scored with a stunning volley following a cross from the right wing. Lim An Keng finished off a quick charge from the left of the field by chipping the ball just past the home side's keeper, making the score 3 - 3 55 minutes into the match. Grilled took the lead 69 minutes into the game, making the score 3 - 4 after some elegant movement down the middle. Brian 'Was Born' Reddy was the scorer. As the 88 minute mark approached, the Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution. Raúl Himadas reluctantly made way for Damian Hutter on the pitch. With Raúl Himadas no longer on the pitch, Aw Keng Chuan took over free kick duty. 89 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Aw Keng Chuan gave Chan Ze Han a quick hug as he left the field. As Aw Keng Chuan left the field, the coach signaled to Chan Ze Han to be the new set pieces taker. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 1 minute beyond the regular 90 minutes. The match ends 3 - 4. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Grilled, with 53 percent of the ball.

newbies's top performer was clearly Li Choon An. Volkert Eutiner was a disappointment, however. Grilled's best player was Gandhik Chitre. Chan Ze Han on the other hand, had a terrible day.
