United 4 - 4 Grilled

Clouds darkened the skies at the stadium today. They fielded: Sheikhu - 云浚 (Yunjun), Garzo - Buşteagă, Berghult, Adolfsson, Dannert, Bartolomei - Crouch, Silvergren, Torres.

Starters: Germanakos - Himadas, 其材 (Qicai) - Reddy, Thach, Keng Chuan, Teck Fu, Trindade - Kwang Tse, An Keng, Khairul.

The coaches were in sync today, as both teams lined up in a 2-5-3 formation. Grilled mostly ignored the flanks in favor of their divine (+8) (28) ability to attack in the middle. With 8 minutes played, the unpredictable Chad Thach of Grilled fired a sudden long range shot that flew only inches wide of the post. Oh, it's a stupendous shot on goal! A Caravaggio! A Michelangelo! A Venus on the Half Shell! 15 minutes into the match and Rico Dannert has created art for the ages for United, putting them ahead 1 - 0. Oh, I'm weeping. I can't stop my eyes. United nearly produced a goal as 林 (Lin) 云浚 (Yunjun) set up Hernán Torres for a strike from a seemingly impossible angle. He was unprepared though, and put the shot wide. 夏 (Ha) 其材 (Qicai) finished off a quick charge from the left of the field by chipping the ball just over the home side's keeper, making the score 1 - 1 19 minutes into the game. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, and they were successfully passing the ball from the wing into the middle at the behest of their coach. Grilled took the lead 29 minutes into the game, making the score 1 - 2 after some elegant movement down the middle. 夏 (Ha) 其材 (Qicai) was the scorer. After a fatal mistake from the away team's right side defense 35 minutes into the match, an alert Kjell Åke Silvergren poked the ball past the keeper, bringing United level at 2 - 2. Some good play on the left wing created an opportunity for the visitors 36 minutes into the match, and Lim An Keng wasn't about to waste it. He got past the defenders and fired a shot that the keeper just missed. 2 - 3 for the visitors. Halftime score was 2 - 3. Let's go to Bluesky to see what the fans think of the game so far! says Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. The visitors' Paulino Trindade took advantage of a mix-up between the home side's goalie and center backs 49 minutes into the match. 2 - 4 for Grilled. Only after several tries were United able to break through on the left 53 minutes in, getting the ball to Hernán Torres who cockily put away the goal to make the score 3 - 4. Around 62 minutes into the match, Carl-Johan Adolfsson used his impressive physique to maintain complete control over his defensive midfield. This caused an Grilled attack to fizzle out with a whimper. With 71 minutes gone, Grilled's organization began to suffer due to a lack of experience. 75 minutes into the game, United wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Jorge Garzo gave Mitch Gilmour a quick hug as he left the field. Due to some great work on the right wing United's Hernán Torres was able to even the score 75 minutes in to 4 - 4. With the clock showing 89 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board. Aw Keng Chuan looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for Damian Hutter, though he would have liked to continue. After 89 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving Mohd Marzuki Khairul off. Chan Ze Han took his place. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 3 minutes of added time, they welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. Grilled had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially 90 minutes in when Paulino Trindade found himself alone with Behnam Sheikhu who managed a block. The match ends 4 - 4. Looks like our neighborhood Nostradamus was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 51 percent possession in this half was spot on!

Kjell Åke Silvergren performed admirably for United. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because 林 (Lin) 云浚 (Yunjun) seemed to stumble all over the pitch. Grilled's best player was Lim An Keng. Speaking of stinking up the place, Dimitris Germanakos sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham.
