It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 5-3-2 formation while the visitors instead opted for a 2-5-3. Like the adage Grilled clearly preferred using their divine (+8) (28) ability to attack in the middle today. A mistake by the home side's central defense after 16 minutes allowed
Chia Kwang Tse to score for Grilled. The visitors have the lead, 0 - 1. One of many good passes from
Delfín 'Ferrus' Durán at the wing was received and skillfully taken care of by
Lou Caro, scoring the 1 - 1 goal for Ejekat. Grilled were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up coming through the center. The visiting
Hwang Teck Fu was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 23 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 1 - 2 was the score. Just a few inches to the right, and the visitors could have had a goal in minute 25.
Chan Ze Han was overheard by some in the stands blaming either Grebulon or sunspots, depending on their individual loyalties.
Gandhik Chitre came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle, but his attempted chip over
Jules Séverin just kept rising and landed in the relieved crowd. Good work by Ejekat's defensive line after 27 minutes produced a good counter-attack chance, one of which cut elegantly down the middle of the field and found
Roberto González alone in front of the goal, but his shot whistled just wide. Grilled had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle instead. 33 minutes into the match,
Lim An Keng came through the middle and almost added to his team's lead, but the shot went wide.
Valerio Roade was in the clear after breaking through the offside trap following a Ejekat counter-attack from the left with 34 minutes played. His neat finish made the score 2 - 2. Halftime score was 2 - 2. Now to our celebrity commentator for a hot take. Over to you, Snoop! The guests almost went up by a goal with 47 minutes elapsed when
Lim An Keng came through from the right. The shot bounced harmlessly off the post, though. 50 minutes into the game, Ejekat seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a inadequate (5) level of organization. After 56 minutes, Ejekat were awarded a free kick as their counter-attack broke down. The set piece fell right at the target man's feet, but he was taken by surprise, having expected his marker to clear the ball out, and made a mess of the finish. Oh dear - the keeper's made a mess of that one. The crowd was very disappointed after he let
Chia Kwang Tse get the go-ahead goal with a speculative shot from the right after 57 minutes. 2 - 3. As the 65 minute mark approached, the Ejekat manager decided it was time for a substitution.
Sylvain Jacquemin reluctantly made way for
Sovanna Luu. After 70 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving
Hwang Teck Fu off.
Paulino Trindade took his place. 70 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution.
Hong Kang Leong came on for
夏 (Ha) 其材 (Qicai). The Grilled captaincy was handed to
Chan Ze Han. Maybe it was because of his team's lead, or maybe it was due to the ease with which he broke down the left, but
Mohd Marzuki Khairul was a bit too sure of his talents, so instead of taking the easy tap-in goal after 74 minutes, he went for the backheel, which he put woefully wide.
Pyry Männistö of Ejekat finished off the counter-attack from the left rather easily, making it 3 - 3. The fourth official announced that there would be 2 minutes of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. It was obvious that Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle when they directed a break on the wing into the center of the park. After 89 minutes, Grilled's
Gandhik Chitre made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 3 - 4. The match ends 3 - 4. Grilled did a good job holding on to the ball, with 76 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.
Ejekat's best player was
Klas Sauer. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because
Valerio Roade seemed to stumble all over the pitch. Grilled's top performer was clearly
Lim An Keng. I can't remember
Chan Ze Han ever having a worse night than he just had.
