Grilled 4 - 2 Reflex

The fans at the stadium today were roasting in the hot sun. It was a sunny day and the technical players could roll the ball around with ease. Those that had to chase after the ball found the weather less appealing, it especially stymied the game of Powerful and Quick players. Lineup: Germanakos - Keng Chuan, 其材 (Qicai) - Reddy, Thach, Kwang Tse, Khairul, Teck Fu - Chitre, Ze Han, An Keng.

Starters: Zerbo - Ichau, Lahaye, Vreven, Masanet, Lahaye - Sufredo, Stefko, Trybalski - Pettau, Piroska.

It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 2-5-3 formation while the visitors instead opted for a 5-3-2. Grilled seemed to prefer attacking in the middle, using their divine (+8) (28) ability to great effect. Like the adage The game had been going for 11 minutes when Chad Thach came in on the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to put away the 1 - 0 goal, giving Grilled the lead. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, and they were successfully passing the ball from the wing into the middle at the behest of their coach. Chan Ze Han was not content with his team's lead, and tried to extend it 32 minutes into the game after a nice run through the middle, but his shot went wide. After 35 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by Gandhik Chitre might have resulted in another goal for Grilled. However, Giuseppe Zerbo made a spectacular save. Reflex showed their counter-attacking skill 36 minutes into the match by breaking through the middle, with Martin Piroska scoring an easy goal for 1 - 1. After 39 minutes cheers broke out as Hwang Teck Fu found his way through the guests' central defensive line, rattling the 2 - 1 goal in off the woodwork for Grilled. Cheers filled the stadium as Chan Ze Han broke through the visitors' central defense to put away the 3 - 1 goal for Grilled. It was 3 - 1 at the break. Let's go to the Twittersphere to see what the fans think of the game so far! says After 46 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving Chan Ze Han off. Joe Reece took his place. As Chan Ze Han left the field, the coach signaled to Aw Keng Chuan to be the new set pieces taker. Reflex's Louis Ichau soared above the crowd, but couldn't knock home the corner 50 minutes into the match. Grilled's Lim An Keng saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates 51 minutes in. The bench was restless, and with 57 minutes gone Reflex's coach gave Mirco Briselat the opportunity to try to change the team's fortunes. Martin Piroska reluctantly left the field. Mohd Marzuki Khairul had a fantastic opportunity to put Grilled up another goal 66 minutes into the match, but he fired just over the crossbar. Reflex mounted an inspired counter-attack down the right wing after 67 minutes, but Gregor Pettau was unable to convert from short range. 75 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defense had to look on as Aw Keng Chuan ran straight through, knocking one home to make it 4 - 1 for Grilled. Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. Joe Reece should probably have put his team up another goal after 80 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by Giuseppe Zerbo kept the visitors in the game. Reflex made a good counter-attacking move down the left 81 minutes into the game, and Gregor Pettau finished well for 4 - 2. Joe Reece of Grilled received a yellow card after 82 minutes for unsportsmanlike behavior. With the clock showing 85 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board. Brian 'Was Born' Reddy looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for Paulino Trindade, though he would have liked to continue. With 85 minutes gone, Grilled's organization began to suffer due to a lack of experience. The fourth official announced that there would be 2 minutes of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. The match ends 4 - 2. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 78 percent possession in this half was spot on!

Grilled's best player was Gandhik Chitre. Good thing Dimitris Germanakos isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. Amanuel Vreven performed admirably for Reflex. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because Ricardo Lahaye seemed to stumble all over the pitch.
