Grilled 2 - 6 Mikaido

We had overcast weather free of rain at the stadium today. Starters: Germanakos - Keng Chuan, 其材 (Qicai) - Reddy, Thach, Kwang Tse, Khairul, Teck Fu - Chitre, Ze Han, An Keng.

They fielded: Irles - Carbonaro, Raasch - Molina, Sousa, Ångkvist, Silvergren, Borrego - Prządka, Mrope, Girichidis.

The coaches were in sync today, as both teams lined up in a 2-5-3 formation. Mikaido seemed to prefer attacking in the middle, using their divine (+2) (22) ability to great effect. Mikaido players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. 0 - 1 was the score after 6 minutes, when Mikaido's Jim Silvergren cut through the central defense and pounded one in. With 10 minutes played, seemingly due to lack of experience, 夏 (Ha) 其材 (Qicai) needlessly tripped an opponent just outside the penalty area, but the free kick that followed didn't succeed. Mikaido were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up coming through the center. A thrilling play through the middle after 13 minutes gave Mikaido's Junior Molina a chance to increase the lead, and he happily obliged. The score was then 0 - 2. After 20 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for Junior Molina who increased Mikaido's lead to 0 - 3. The home club's fans got back into the match when Aw Keng Chuan broke through the visitors' central defense and caught their keeper napping, making it 1 - 3. 1 - 3 was the halftime score. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 53 percent possession in this half was spot on!

46 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Chan Ze Han gave Joe Reece a quick hug as he left the field. As Chan Ze Han left the field, the coach signaled to Aw Keng Chuan to start taking the set pieces that occurred. The visitors' Hugo Borrego took advantage of a mix-up between the home side's goalie and center backs 55 minutes into the match. 1 - 4 for Mikaido. The visitors added to their lead 71 minutes into the game, after a sensational penalty kick by Mikaido's Alessandro Carbonaro slid just past the home keeper. 1 - 5. By working their way through the middle, Grilled refused to be intimidated – their efforts finally led to Gandhik Chitre managing to slip the ball past the keeper to make the score 2 - 5. The away team's Boniface Mrope took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 79 minutes increasing Mikaido's lead to 2 - 6. With 82 minutes played, Grilled's Chad Thach received a yellow card for challenging a play with his cleats first. With 83 minutes gone, Grilled's Chad Thach had to leave the game after talking back to the referee and receiving his second booking. With the clock showing 85 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board. Brian 'Was Born' Reddy looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for Paulino Trindade, though he would have liked to continue. The fourth official announced that there would be 4 minutes of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. The match ends 2 - 6. Now to our celebrity commentator for a hot take. Over to you, Snoop! The most outstanding Grilled player was without a doubt Lim An Keng. I can't remember Dimitris Germanakos ever having a worse night than he just had. Lisandros Girichidis performed admirably for Mikaido. Speaking of stinking up the place, Alessandro Carbonaro sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham.
