The teams had chosen different formations for the match. The home team, Flamenco Beach Kickers, went for a 3-5-2, while Grilled Birds has decided to play a 2-5-3 lineup. It was an obvious ambition of Flamenco to play a wide game with their divine (+3) (23) ability to attack down the wings. Grilled clearly preferred using their divine (+8) (28) ability to attack in the middle today. Was it the hair gel? Was it a gift from the gods? Either way, the faithful won't care. Soaring like a Saturn V,
Lim An Keng somehow got his head on a
Chan Ze Han moonshot from the corner and buried it in the back of the net. What grace! What power! Plant the flag for Grilled, Neil Armstrong! The score is now 0 - 1. A thrilling play through the middle after 11 minutes gave Grilled's
Chan Ze Han a chance to increase the lead, and he happily obliged. The score was then 0 - 2.
Bryce Cummings charged down the left and looked sure to score for Flamenco 14 minutes into the game, but his shot went just wide. Grilled were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up coming through the center. The visitors'
Chan Ze Han took advantage of a mix-up between the home side's goalie and center backs 23 minutes into the match. 0 - 3 for Grilled. After more pushing and shoving than a pack of helicopter moms trying to get the last appointment for their snowflakes to see the Easter Bunny, Flamenco's
Bryce Cummings finally got himself booked for a foul. Grilled's
Chan Ze Han received a ball slotted perfectly through the home side's central defense after 26 minutes, and chipped it past the helpless keeper to increase the lead to 0 - 4. The away fans won't regret traveling for this one! One, two, three goals! That completed a hattrick for
Chan Ze Han. AH! AH! AH! The game was close to savage at times, and Flamenco's
Bryce Cummings received a second yellow card after 38 minutes, his ticket to the dressing rooms. The referee showed Flamenco's
Džiugas Kapšas the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. 0 - 4 was the halftime score. Well, look at this! Cardi B is on the Enormotron in naught but giant sunglasses and a Twisted Metal F.C. tank top. I've not seen anything like it before. As the 46 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution.
Chan Ze Han reluctantly made way for
Joe Reece. With
Chan Ze Han no longer on the field,
Aw Keng Chuan stepped up to be the new set pieces taker.
Lim An Keng came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle, but his attempted chip over
Yandel Musladini just kept rising and landed in the relieved crowd. Flamenco's
Mirco Andrich got the home crowd going bananas when he finished off a left wing bull rush, reducing the away team's lead to 1 - 4. With 66 minutes played, Grilled put themselves up 1 - 5 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was
Gandhik Chitre. The home crowd was not impressed when
Chad Thach came in from the right, shooting hard to score after 67 minutes. Grilled were now up 1 - 6. 85 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Brian 'Was Born' Reddy gave
Paulino Trindade a quick hug as he left the field. The fourth official announced that there would be 3 minutes of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. The match ends 1 - 6. Grilled did a good job holding on to the ball, with 61 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.
The most outstanding Flamenco player was without a doubt
Maurice Díaz. Good thing
Charbel Haddad isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. Most important Grilled player was
Lim An Keng. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by
Dimitris Germanakos today.
