Grilled 3 - 6 toxines

It was a cloudy day at the stadium today. They fielded: Germanakos - Keng Chuan, 其材 (Qicai) - Reddy, Thach, Kwang Tse, Khairul, Parada - Chitre, Ze Han, An Keng.

The following players took the field: Limare - Purgar, Nissen, Zhuk - Marchesi, Matušica, Castaing, Viault, Delépine - Jasionowski, Macolino.

Grilled Birds trundled out to the pitch in a 2-5-3 formation. The visitors, les toxines, chose to start the game with a 3-5-2 lineup. For their match strategy, toxines had decided to use their magnificent (12) ability to counter-attack whenever possible. Gandhik Chitre's name was chanted throughout the stadium after his goal in minute 29 following a run up the middle gave Grilled the 1 - 0 lead. The visiting team's Édouard Delépine was able to score the 1 - 1 equalizer with a header 33 minutes in, after some good work on the right. Federico Parada gave Grilled the 2 - 1 lead, as he successfully challenged the guests' central defenders, then placed the ball at the keeper's right post – what a clinical finish! The visitors didn't give in and, after 35 minutes, Tonio Macolino got through the home side's central line of defense, rolling in the leveling goal to make it 2 - 2. After 42 minutes Federico Parada made a speedy advance and dropped the ball to Brian 'Was Born' Reddy who blasted it past the keeper. The score was now 3 - 2. toxines leveled the score after 43 minutes to make it 3 - 3, as Mikołaj Jasionowski struck home after a fine midfield combination through the middle left him completely unmarked. It was 3 - 3 at the break. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 55 percent possession in this half was spot on!

46 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution. Joe Reece came on for Chan Ze Han. A mistake by the home side's central defense after 52 minutes allowed Christian Nissen to score for toxines. The visitors have the lead, 3 - 4. A series of fine plays up the middle should have led to a goal for Grilled, but Lim An Keng's shot went over the bar. Joe Reece made a superb effort after 60 minutes after a long ball through the middle, but one of the visitors' defenders got a foot in at the last second to preserve the away lead. 65 minutes into the game, toxines worked the left side industriously creating several opportunities to add to their lead, but just couldn't apply the finishing touch. Grilled's Gandhik Chitre made a successful breakthrough on the left after 78 minutes and should have tied things up, but instead he sent it over the bar. After 79 minutes, a well-worked counter-attack by toxines on the right gave Mikołaj Jasionowski an easy opportunity in front of the goal. He duly converted to make it 3 - 5. Lim An Keng almost lowered the gap having danced through the entire left side of the defense, but the shot went straight into the arms of the goalkeeper. Arkadii Zhuk was first to reach a long ball launched through the center from toxines's defense 82 minutes into the game. He managed to keep his cool and beat the keeper to make the score 3 - 6. toxines's coach was furious with Tonio Macolino after he picked up a yellow for saying one too many words to the ref. As the 85 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution. Brian 'Was Born' Reddy reluctantly made way for Paulino Trindade. As the match nears its end, the referee deemed it appropriate to add 3 minutes as stoppage time. A misunderstanding between the visitors' keeper Simon Limare and his left defense could have resulted in a goal for Grilled, but Paulino Trindade's finish was way too meek. After 91 minutes, a deliberate handball from toxines's Tonio Macolino was judged to be his second bookable offense, and he was sent off. The match ends 3 - 6. Grilled did a good job holding on to the ball, with 56 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.

Most important Grilled player was Gandhik Chitre. I can't remember Dimitris Germanakos ever having a worse night than he just had. Simon Limare performed admirably for toxines. Speaking of stinking up the place, Nolen Purgar sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham.
