Deportivo Baukau fielded a 3-5-2 lineup. For Grilled Birds, the formation of choice was a 2-5-3. After 7 minutes of play,
Ole Olsen gave the home team a 1 - 0 lead after an attack coming in from the right. A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased Deportivo's lead to 2 - 0 as
Felix Tobias Derbsch finished it off clinically, firing the shot from a terrible angle. Morale on the visitors' bench was greatly improved when their player
Gandhik Chitre scored to make it 2 - 1 after 25 minutes, following a good pass from the right. Deportivo managed to extend their lead to 3 - 1 when
Eric Brustmann slid in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. Deportivo's
Ole Olsen knows he could have done better after sending a weak penalty into the keeper's arms after 28 minutes. After 29 minutes, Grilled were awarded a free kick as their counter-attack broke down. The set piece fell right at the target man's feet, but he was taken by surprise, having expected his marker to clear the ball out, and made a mess of the finish. Halftime score was 3 - 1. Well, look at this! Cardi B is on the Enormotron in naught but giant sunglasses and a Twisted Metal F.C. tank top. I've not seen anything like it before. After 46 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving
Chan Ze Han off.
Joe Reece took his place. 52 minutes had passed when Deportivo put themselves up 4 - 1 after the visiting defenders lost the ball to
Eric Brustmann, who came up from the left and proceeded to easily go around the goalkeeper and knock the ball home. Grilled's
Chad Thach was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 55 minutes. An accurate cross from Grilled's
Federico Parada was met with a wonderful off-balance header from
Joe Reece, hitting the inside base of the post before curling up into the back of the net like a dog in front of a fire for 4 - 2. Cheers filled the stadium as
Eric Brustmann broke through the visitors' central defense to put away the 5 - 2 goal for Deportivo. One, two, three goals! That completed a hattrick for
Eric Brustmann. AH! AH! AH! With 71 minutes played,
Federico Parada had a fantastic opportunity to reply but his shot from the middle nicked the post and went out. Grilled never say die, and though it wasn't a pretty goal,
Lim An Keng offered the visiting fans a glimmer of hope after 72 minutes. That makes it 5 - 3. 75 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Deportivo substitution.
Lassi Vallivaara came on for
Eric Brustmann. The visitors got a chance to pulling one back after 77 minutes, due to a defensive blunder leaving
Lim An Keng completely unmarked. His strike was pathetic though, rolling slowly to the home side's keeper. Grilled kept trying to force their way through on the right side and
Lim An Keng got his chance after 78 minutes, but the home side's defense held their position and stopped the attack. As the match nears its end, the referee deemed it appropriate to add 3 minutes as stoppage time. The match ends 5 - 3. Grilled did a good job holding on to the ball, with 56 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.
Deportivo's top performer was clearly
Lassi Vallivaara. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because
Julian Prankerhelm seemed to stumble all over the pitch. Grilled's best player was
Gandhik Chitre. Speaking of stinking up the place,
Dimitris Germanakos sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham.
