Che Guevarinhos FC trundled out to the pitch in a 3-5-2 formation. The visitors, Grilled Birds, chose to start the game with a 2-5-3 lineup. Che FC's game plan was to sit back and absorb the pressure, then use their formidable (9) ability to break on the counter whenever possible. Grilled clearly preferred using their divine (+8) (28) ability to attack in the middle today. 9 minutes into the game, Che FC had difficulty finding their positions and their organization dropped to solid (7). It was obvious that Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle when they directed a break on the wing into the center of the park. Down the middle came
Joe Reece, making a fantastic play that nearly saw Grilled take the lead after 10 minutes, but
Esteban Monge preserved the tie. 15 minutes into the game, Che FC wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Reggie Waterloos gave
Romeo Ţilivea a quick hug as he left the field. Grilled's
Joe Reece was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 15 minutes. Grilled's
Gandhik Chitre could have put the guests one up 17 minutes in after chasing a through ball from the right, but
Esteban Monge was as quick as a snake, grabbing the ball from under his nose. After 21 minutes, the Che FC coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving
Maciej Bedla off.
Titus Zwartkruis took his place.
Maciej Bedla was coming off, and had taken his last free kick for the day. That meant
Maurizio Busso got the chance to showcase his dead ball skills. With the clock showing 23 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board.
Jaume Aulina looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for
Ernesto Fidel Velázquez, though he would have liked to continue.
Suran Shah really should have scored when he was chosen by fate to confront a wide open goal following a great flick by
Bogdan Iosip after a corner. Grilled had a good opportunity to score the go-ahead goal after a combination on the right but the home team's keeper
Esteban Monge saved
Chia Kwang Tse's shot that was headed straight to the top corner. A mistake by the home side's central defense after 34 minutes allowed
Chad Thach to score for Grilled. The visitors have the lead, 0 - 1. After a fatal mistake from the away team's right side defense 35 minutes into the match, an alert
Ernesto Fidel Velázquez poked the ball past the keeper, bringing Che FC level at 1 - 1. It was 1 - 1 at the break. Well, look at this! Cardi B is on the Enormotron in naught but giant sunglasses and a Twisted Metal F.C. tank top. I've not seen anything like it before. Che FC's coach went over the strategy again during the break, and after that his players had solid (7) organization.
Joe Reece came close to putting the visiting team one up 56 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but
Esteban Monge managed to tip the ball over. After 63 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as Che FC found themselves out of position and their organization level dropped to inadequate (5). The visiting
Brian 'Was Born' Reddy was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 64 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 1 - 2 was the score. The ball was in the back of the home team's net yet again after 74 minutes, but this time the referee called the goal back because
Mohd Marzuki Khairul had knocked a member of the opposing team to the ground while the play occurred down the middle of the field. 75 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution.
Chan Ze Han came on for
Joe Reece. Che FC's counter-attacks were lethal to the opposing defense, allowing
Bogdan Iosip to score easily from the right side for 2 - 2.
Esteban Monge looked great 76 minutes in after stopping a shot by the visitors'
Gandhik Chitre. Some good play on the left wing created an opportunity for the visitors 78 minutes into the match, and
Federico Parada wasn't about to waste it. He got past the defenders and fired a shot that the keeper just missed. 2 - 3 for the visitors. The fourth official announced that there would be 2 minutes of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. The match ends 2 - 3. Let's go to the Twittersphere to see what the fans think of the game so far! says Che FC's top performer was clearly
Maurizio Busso. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by
Suran Shah today.
Gandhik Chitre performed admirably for Grilled. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because
Dimitris Germanakos seemed to stumble all over the pitch.
